Ok....what mountain(s) in NH carry the same vibe and great skiing like magic, plattekill, ........smaller mom / pop feel.
I <heart> hot tele-moms
Much appreciated
Tele'd the groomers at Plattekill yesterday. Great when the sun came out. Gotta get there when there's more natural snow.
That faux slash shot is pretty funneh Single, always wondered how it was done.
13º bob under calm recently cleared skies. 4 [four] inches of fresh since 3 pm yesterday, very light and fluffy.
It seems the cold on Saturday knocked the wind out of the weekenders sails as the cams showed light Monday like lines all day. Went out mid afternoon for a tour during a lull in the flurries and found some nice lines to ski.
Heard a bunch of commotion around 3 and looked out to see some younglings grabbing pics of dads Allroad in the ditch. 1st one of the season. The evil plow guys blade as much as two feet over the ditch so paying attention is key
Something up with Bravo this morning, mechanics didn't even try starting it, went right to VH. What a hassle.
SSS Saturday Slide Show, not safe even tucked off to the side.

Ottime
Light snow all day made for some nice turns on Castlerock yesterday afternoon.
Looks like a snowy week, pretty stoked to be off all week with my kid in camp.

We are only 9" below average at the Mansfield snow stake. Of course for you data geeks that's almost 20% off the average.
Another 4-6" over the next few days? It's no dump, but nickles and dimes ad up to bucks and benjamins.
Nearly blew off work on Thursday to head up for storm, instead glad I stuck around for some PA Powder days (aka guns blazing all day). Cold snap just enough to keep our little mountain going for maybe 4th time the season.
Got some pics from friend and his daughter that last minute went up to Stowe, looks like few more inches this morning. Stayed home to watch my daughter win her SL and 2nd in GS was worth missing out. Feeling a bit rough today after a sunny apres yesterday.

Even thought its Epic, I feel like Wildcat still kinda feels like a smaller mom/pop place. Ditto for Cannon. Very basic, no-frills lodges and old fashioned, steep, narrow skiing.
*honorable mention for a REAL mom & pop spot with a good vibe & decent skiing, as mentioned, Ragged.
Smaller still, but still mom & pop, fun skiing & good vibe, Cranmore or Pats Peak
Crotched is really fun when the woods are ‘’in’’ and it doesn’t feel all that Epic

Ever been to Tenney? Place was insane when I was at Plymouth State in the 80’s. It’s been on again, off again for years, they are back again. Really great mid-size area in a often overlooked part of the state. Stoked to see them come back, go ski Tenney Mountain.

I saw another angle and it looked like he got raked over the Lunch Rocks. Don't think he was buried.
AVALANCHE SUMMARY
This avalanche was triggered by a party of two - skier and snowboarder - who were descending The Lip in Tuckerman Ravine. The snowboarder was caught, carried, and partially buried after the avalanche was triggered by the skier, higher up on the slope. Hard slab debris carried the snowboarder a couple hundred vertical feet into Chicken Rock Gully. No one was injured during this incident. The avalanche was triggered from a thin spot at a rock and ice bulge, which allowed weak layer failure and propagation to translate outwards onto the slope into areas of deeper wind slab. Debris depth was measured at about 1.7 meters at the deepest. The bed surface was not directly observed, but was likely the interface between new wind slabs and old snow, where soft snow and significant graupel has been observed over the past several days.
