After reflecting on this a bit, I bet they were totally fried from the effort

Lets all agree to disagree that if you want that classic flow you better be wearing Pit Vipers

    .

    sometimes,
when he's climbing close to the summit,
    Wirth channels the spirit of
    Marc-Andre' Leclerc

Good video, and glad to have him back, especially now that The Fifty has concluded for the season. Awesome to score all three of those lines with such good conditions on three successive days.

What does he base his claim that the Skillet is the 'longest continuous line in the contiguous United States' on? Rainier, Shasta, and the Eastern Sierra are all home to longer continuous descents.

Well its the longest continuous line in the contiguous United States that is in the 50 classics book, and who gives a shit about a ski line if its not in the book? The Fuhrer Finger and some others might be longer total descents but the steep part of the Skillet is longer than any of the others (in the book). Its probably for the best, Scheelite, Black Hole, and others are better left unspoiled.

    Dude is legit. Props.

The race is on to ski the 50. I looked at Noah Howells site the other day .. what's that dude been doing?

Still some barely skiable super dangerous lines in the list. Will be interesting to see if anyone gets them all..

He was moving ultra fast on his aemmer trip. Insane speed. Looked like there was a track in on the trail but still its a ways. One of my fave days ever on the aemmers. Thigh deep and minimal sluffing

He's the real deal aerobically. Numerous mountain running/trail running FKT's around here on his resume.

Since I'm not on social media and was just following his you tube uploads, what happened? Just seemed to abruptly drop off on uploads?

Ain't no race from me. In fact, if I was on top of the last line together with Noah or Wirth, I'd make drop last. Finishing or racing to get them all done has very little importance to me. Maybe that's just cause I'm old, have a family and have lost too many friends to care about titles for popularity, but it's definitely how I feel. The FIFTY as a project has turned into far more of an excuse for making good stories and have good adventures than anything. As far as Noah, it's been a while since I've chatted with him but he's been mainly working marketing for Fly Low, living out in his yurt and generally pared back on ski expeditions and adventures. Believe he's still crushing Utah pow as always but not chasing the classics much anymore.

And that's why most of us who made it through their 20s enjoy your Format. We're not expecting you to die "live on screen".
That's why I can't really watch TOF, schirmer or wirth. I always have the value gut feeling they are pushing it beyond what's making sense and if i watch them I'd be partly responsible if they don't make it one day.

Your decision making process is more like my own because it's ultimate goal is to ski (pow) another day.

Edit: and because your not taking all that stuff superduper seriously. Skiing is fun after all. You might Lose me on your sufferfest tours, but I like the spirit you go into those. [emoji3]

He's been living around the N Cascades for most the season and skiing there plus up in Canada a decent amount. I haven't tracked closely if he's skied many, if any classics in recent months, but he's been doing a lot of steep skiing and bigger days. Seems like he's maybe looking to knock off some big objectives this spring?

On instagram last week he posted he was getting a new knee. The caption sounds like maybe he's potentially had some issues over the last 5-6 years from not dealing with it at the time. I totally here his reasoning on choosing not to at the time, but wonder if that made the bigger days/objectives more than he wanted to commit to?

I tore my ACL six or seven years ago in a grudge match of tennis w a high school friend. I chose not to have it repaired then because I’d done two ACL repairs before (ski backseat much?) and really struggled w depression on the recovery end. This last summer my knee started having issues w pain and swelling and I had it drained and took good care of it and it got better. This winter it started hurting and swelling up, it was effecting my gait and I was really favoring my other leg so I decided to finally have it repaired.

I never clicked on this thread and don't follow these type of things.

But I bought a bike from him during Covid. He was always nice to me.

He's continued to be based around Roger's pass for the last couple seasons. Still skiing big lines and big linkups, still very fit.

That Elks FKT was a couple year ago. It was a big accomplishment and big upstage on the previous FKT. Unfortunately [in the narrow world of FKTs], Simi came and smashed Mike's FKT by ~6 hours a few weeks later.
