I have a 2003 small (14") Trans Red Santa Cruz Bullit that, sadly, needs to get turned into a trip to Yerrup- the bike is in very good condition and excellent working order. I work for a ski/bike shop, so it's gotten a lot of love.
It's been used basically as a trail bike (no lift riding or drops over 4 feet)- never crashed (fell over once though). The bike has probably seen as many hours of maintenance and cleaning as it has riding.
It was bought in Sept '03, so it's basically been used for 2 summers.
Suggested retail was $2950 when I bought it. There are cable rub marks and a few small scratches, but the paint still looks good.
Parts spec is mid-grade, but very functional: XT tranny (shifts pefectly), 5th Element shock, Boxxer Race fork W/ Romic crown (soft springs, stanchions are clean), Hussefelt cranks, Hayes 8" hydros, Rhyno Lite wheels (true), CK headset (new, not installed), Thompson post, Diabolus stem (new), Azonic DW bar (new) w/ lock-ons, Shimano 545 pedals. Bike weighs about 38lbs w/ DH-ish rubber- could be easily set up much lighter.
Also have a brand new WTB Shadow (lightweight, pretty narrow) that is included (not in photos). Tires are a 2.5 sticky Michelin front and 2.4 Kenda Cortez rear- worn, but plenty of tread left. Brakes have been bled, pads @ 50%. Pivots are tight.
I've been super stoked on this Bullit- it's about the burliest bike you could still take for an epic trail ride. It pedals really well, even set up ultra-plush. The small (14") frame will work well for anyone 5' 8" or shorter- it's a really low, compact frame, but the seat tube is extra long.
People piss and moan about Boxxers, but this one's been great- buttery feel and no problems. I clean the seals every ride and change fluid 2X per season. The Boxxer Race has different internals than the Team/World Cup models that were blowing seals.
I'm looking to get $1700 OBO- you can find Bullits for less- but not one this tight. Price includes UPS shipping, 545 pedals if you want 'em, a Chris King Headset, new WTB saddle, and an extra tire- Maxxis Minion 2.35 rear (sticky). It will be fully tuned with new cables, true wheels, new grips, and all parts serviced. I haven't had the shock serviced, but I'd be glad to send it in to 5th Element and have it shippped to you- it's worked perfectly, so I haven't bothered.
