Love coming across wolverine tracks at elevation in the winter. No fucks given. Kinda dark this year though as carrion buried in avies are a common source of food for them in the winter.

Vibes to those impacted by that slack country slide at KH. Unfortunately, while I hope I am wrong, I don’t think that lurking dragon is done with us yet this season. Stay safe everyone!

The infamous richardson cornice on the LL back slid naturally during open hours today, fat 2.5 slab that came within a few yards of the OOB cat-track (if it existed this year).

    Shit's fucked.

I have some stuff I want to get rid of that I'd rather not ship.

Anyone in the Rockies area want these?

Liners from a size 25 older gen tecnica cochise, 300mm BSL. Pretty packed out because these boots are actually too high a volume for me but might be better than nothing for someone? FREE.

Very old Whippets, with the non-whippet top section as well. I use the non-whippet part but these should go to someone who will use the whippet part as well. $20 towards me buying a new set of non-whippet poles.

I like the whippet concept but I don’t like wet fingers…

    ^^^

Do you mean like if you were using it in lieu of an ice axe to climb something?

I wouldn't think they would be good for anything ice related but maybe in a couloir? And I would think your hands would get wet if you used a normal ice axe in that case as well.

I really considered them more for arresting a fall. I.e. glacier travel since it's always out and at the ready.

And I'm somewhat convinced it saved my life in an avalanche when I managed to self arrest on the failure surface while large blocks crashed around me from above and I didn't get swept down.

Yeah, the whole thing went to bedrock on the east half, and about 3-5 foot of wind slab off the west cornice.

Stupid me was busy doing demos and dodging sharks on said demos and i can't believe i didn't. It will probably be buried by the inc storm by the time I get back.

Best I found from instagram combing was this faint outline of the toe.

Anyone around Banff need minty Pivot 12s with B115 or some 184 Faction 3.0s? Will be in Banff 3/1-5 and can bring with me.

40cm new by mid morning today at Kimbo. Our snowfalls this season seem to be 4 cm or 40, nothing in between.

    Total reset of conditions.

On the ground report from Kimberley is good, very good.

But stay away - crowds mess up all the good lines!

Incredible morning at Norquay! Deep and crowdless on the North American…to bad your legs can only handle so many of those runs….

My wife and I have 3 nights in a Canmore hotel and with a blanket over the car's hood (!) we're hoping to ski SSV/LL/SSV the next few mornings.

We love both places but I think it was at least 10 degrees warmer last time. Any tips on what to ski/avoid at either place in super cold temps? TIA

At this point you should be wondering if the lifts will even spin tomorrow.

Yeah, that and a few other things have come to mind, but I figured survival at -25C could be considered thread drift.

Good to know we aren't just importing American weakness.

I mean, we are, but not just that.

My tip: "Springtime in the Rockies" really is a thing, meaning Banff is best skied in Spring. They even sell a March-April Pass.

As far as being able to start your vehicle goes, a blanket on the hood is a waste of time. Instead, before you go to bed start the car and run it for 5 min or until the engine warms up a bit. You might need to get up in the middle of the night and repeat. Better yet, bring the car battery inside for the night.

Look to see if the vehicle has a block heater cord- if it does just plug it in overnight…

Pretty cold to be out there next few days….
