    Steam showers

Sorry to booner et al.. that this isn't a pic thread. Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed myself

Anyone have experience with steam showers? My mom is finally breaking ground rebuilding her house after it burned down with my father inside over a year ago.

    They are all 12kw.

    Trying to decide between:

Mr steam generator. Mr steam ibutler basic package br bronze
    Steamist smp-12 steam generator
Steamist gpad-250 generator pan and auto drain
    Steamist 550+digital control

Mr steam and steamist are the two brands the plumber had access to.

    Thx in advance.

I'm pretty sure there's another thread from a few years ago with a fair number of replies if you can make the search function work. We've had two, both Steamist, and they've been fine, but no idea on which components they had.

In the second installation the steam had to travel quite a distance from the generator, maybe 50 feet, through copper tubing. It worked fine but took the thing a long time to heat up. But it was also a big enclosure, like 10 x 8, that it had to heat.

The one time we had a service issue Steamist was responsive and sent a local guy over and we never got a bill, and the unit was not new at the time, it was maybe 7-8 years old by then. That's all I got but Steamist gets a nod from me.

It has been pointed out to me that saying, "wait, wtf?" might have been appropriate at this point.

I've built 3 steam showers in the last 6 years or so. Mr Steam in all of them and no call backs, so I'm sold.

Thx for the info. Much appreciated. Steam shower posts were few sporadic, and non-specific in the remodel thread. Your post in the thread was also very helpful.

My dad did die in the fire. I didn't post about it then since I didn't need/want one hundred "vibes" posts.

So no, not even remotely funny.

    Edited: to remove name calling.

Vibes man. Losing dad sucks, but that’s a harsh way to go.

I think most of the jokes involve fighting fire with steam.

For those that have steam showers, are they still used regularly?

Steam showers. Saunas. Hot tubs. Jetted tubs.
They seem to lose appeal after a few years. Except for a few

I do enjoy a steam and sauna at the club.
Not sure I would use it enough to justify the expense.

wife wants to re-do our master bath. if so, was thinking about a steam shower to re-place the tub we don't use. curious as to anyone's opinions that have them and if worth it. i've only done a few steam showers but I think i like them better than saunas.

^^^ we had one in a older house and I really miss it. Had one every morning. If you like saunas, hot tubs etc.... I'd say go for it.

Going to install one at my own house when we remodel. Have used a couple friends steam showers in the past. I found them fantastic for breathing especially for allergy sufferers like myself. Not bad for extra curriculum activities as well if you can hold on.

Tyx Fred! I'll pass along the Amerec brand info; however, I think only Mr steam and steamist are on the menu at this time

Similar situation. I’d love one. I prefer steam to dry sauna as we’re in such a dry climate anyway. Been going to local rec center and doing steam room/ sauna/hot tub a few times a week if I can. Would love one at home. No doubt I’d use it almost daily.

But only way we’re doing it is if it’s part of whole master remodel. Not quite there yet…

If you're putting one in put another vent fan in the bathroom at the same time, preferably one with a hefty CFM number or you can turn your bathroom into a terrarium if you use it a lot. Put it on its own switch so you don't suck all the heat/ac out of the house every time you use the bathroom.

I have a Steamist and in the 3 years I’ve had it I’ve had no issues. We still love it. Between my wife and I it probably gets used 5 times a week. I’d highly suggest one.
