And on Monday while the kids were in the water park at the Pomeroy, Idecided to tick another hill off the list. Hart Ski Hill is literally a hill, but it was well worth with my $15 (50% off for family day). Nice little terrain park. Reminded me of Conors Hill (aka Edmonton Ski Club) where I learned to ski.

Only visited once, but dug the vibe at Troll. Given the future snowpacks, I’ve been floating the idea with the wife of buying a cabin in Wells, which we love. Tons of snow with excellent XC out the front door, Troll nearby, and vast sled accessed touring into the Cariboos. One could do a lot worse for an early retirement winter location.
Troll is awesome.

Banff Center Mountain Film Festival tonight in Smithers. Here are some completely unsolicited reviews;
Flow - Good opener.
Fastest Girl In The Village - A cobbled together mess.
Nuisance Bear - Beautiful, haunting. Tracking shot at start is epic. Must see.
Wild Waters - My daughters fav. Meh.
Creation Story - Self Indulgent, vapid.
Cenote - Charming story. Easy to like.
Free To Run - Inspiring and heart breaking at the same time. Stephanie Case is a f*cking badass.
Do A Wheelie- Tries to be fun and cute. Isn’t.
- Nuisance Bear and Free to Run alone are worth the price of admission.
- Creation Story would be a good time to go take a dump.
- Kayak cliff dropping is stupid.
- Stephanie Case is an incredible human being.

Reminder of the Smithers Ski Club's Ski Swap on Sat.
https://www.interior-news.com/local-...led-for-nov-4/
Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Smithers Christian Reformed Church at 4035 Walnut Dr.
The advent of FB Marketplace, VarageSale and the like have kinda knocked the shit out of the local ski swaps- but come out anyway It's an important fundraiser for our club. Keep those kids skiing.
Clean out the ol' gear closet. Drop off is 6-8 on Friday.
Yours truly will sell the crap out of your old crap on Sat!
HMS and I just booked a Burnie Glacier week end of March so we'll be following your thread. Gonna take at least an extra week or so in the North Country, so any advice on what to hit that week will be much appreciated. Beers on us when we hit town.
getting into town early in case your skis don't make it on air canada is a good thing,
also some people don't get to ski much so they get here and havent skied since last year's vaca so tune up days at the ski hill can be good
i think " the Storks Nest " is the hotel most skiers stay at and its right on main st close to restaurants and the 2 craft brews

Awesome! Definitely hit Hudson's Bay Mtn (the ski hill at Smithers), Hanken Evelyn (turn off is about 20 minutes west of Smithers) on your way to or from Shames (my mountain coop or MMC), which of course you need to hit. Keep in mind operating days of Shames are generally Thurs - Sun with the exception of xmas break. The hill's last scheduled day of operation is March 31. Just throwing it out there for your planning purposes Hanken Evelyn (HE) is in the middle of nowhere so I would suggest either leave Smithers in the morning, hit HE, then drive to Terrace OR leave Terrace in the AM (like 8am ish at the latest) ski HE, then stay in Smithers. The road to HE is not great generally so 4 wheel drive is recommended (driving anywhere up here in the winter really) and allow at least 30 minutes from the highway to the parking lot (so that makes it almost 3 hours from Terrace).

- If you're spending one week. Fly into Terrace beforehand. Costs for plane is way cheaper than Smithers who get ripped off by AC.
- Arrange car rentals way beforehand
- Go ski Shames. Just go. In late March the weather opens up too and the days get longer. You can tour to Poupard, Oscar. Even Wolf's Den or Glacier Peak where it's nice to have a sled tow but not necessary
- See if you can get into Skeena Cat. I'm working on a yurt-based cat-supported ski touring thingy for them but not till next year. But they often have last minutes
- Go ski Hankin. Just go.
If you just fly into Smithers then make friends with Al and see if he'll sherpa you around so you won;t need a car
- HBM has decent slackcountry too. Not quite as much as Shames but still worthy
- I like Aspen for their accoms and their food too. There's the sushi plan in Smithers too and way more food than i can remember,.
- If the Burnie guide offers a chance of spending money for a heli bump to the Telkwa glacier on a bluebird day do it.
There's more of course.
Thanks all! Is Air Canada the only game in town?
