All fair critiques, but driven with a minor amount of skill and scorn for resale value you can go pretty much anywhere there are roads. Once things become trails, you're screwed, but I've camped a lot of places where the only other vehicles were lifted trucks/suvs. I just had to pick my way in more carefully than they did.
Here's a picture of the type of place we find ourselves a lot. It's not bad, but you have to watch for rocks/ rutted lanes as you can't straddle much. The Transit Connect does have short front/rear overhangs though and that helps a lot.
But at the same time I would have explored farther down this particular road if I had a more capable vehicle. We were pretty far out and I didn't want to find myself stuck if larger ruts emerged or things got unexpectedly sandy where I couldn't carry any speed. Still, for right now it's not a bad tradeoff. I'd love a next gen Transit Connect on the Maverick platform though.
