Another set of skis getting softer for the masses. Glad I got in on them when I did.
M series as in mantra? I thought they hadn't changed from last year?

I coulda been a bit more precise.

Speaking to a bud at the local shop, a volkl guy, and a heavyweight ex-racer, last week. We were discussing the 2 pair I bought a few weeks back, last years red M6 and the green M102. So, yes, both Mantras.
That's just my reference, the M thing; not sure about kendos or katanas.

He said that the ones on the wall were just a little bit softer this season. The rep gave them the new deets and when he said that, my friend said he just deflated.

We chalked it up to a familiar trend here in JH. The models that are burly and power oriented hang longer than the oversensitive and uninspiring also rans.
But sooner than later, they tend to hit the sales sweet spot by fine tuning to the masses.

Kastle MX98 194, first gen is a prime example. First gen LPR's, Rossi super7's, etc.
All get softened when the sales demographic says they're too stiff for the majority of buyers.
    We get that.
He was surprised that they gave no heads up on it last season or this summer. Just kinda sprung it on him.

Probably not a big step, but another slight adjustment to the M5 generation.
He didn't mention anything different in overall build but something must've changed a tad, yes?
Topsheets are a lil different shades. Like froggy green.

My new M102's last year aren't the stiffest ski I roll, but they're def the funnest. And they do have a lower high end for me. 6 gears, not 7.

With a price like that (specifically that one) you just know they're absolutely trashed

    Oh, heavy sigh.

I look at these and have to take a deep breath.

On run #1, I'd have to really wrap my head around the imminent technique requirements. This ski could hurt a guy.

Would they be good for low angle tight tree skiing?

They will grab hold of your boots and zip right through those tight trees as if they were never there.

Can't say the same about the rest of you.

Currently still rocking my mantra M5 177. Yeah, they need to be driven hard all the time but I don't mind.

I have been curious recently are there any drawback to upgrading to the M6?

The M6 is easier to ski but has a smaller turn radius under foot. Some bigger, harder chargers say that they can find the top end of the M6. I haven’t found it yet. If you just want a crud buster, the M5 might be better. If you want a very dynamic all-mountain ski that craves speed, the M6 is it.

Nice find. That was marketing BS about only being able to use Markers.

Congrats on finding rare unicorns in what appears to be excellent shape! I've been skiing mine with Ski Trab skimo bindings with no issue.

Congrats on the score. Just make sure to use good epoxy and flip them upside down after mounting and you'll be golden. Amazing ski.

I don’t understand the hand in the graphic? What is the reference, if any?

How would they ski compared to Declivity X? R114 seems more loose with more taper and slightly more pintail, but are they as stable as the DX?

    I wanna try

Adam's left hand being touched by god, I assumed.

I am happy with my Salomon Blanks and absolutely do not need this ski, dammit.
