    Wanna try the Revolt 114s.

How does the 188 Revolt 104 ski for bigger guys? I’m looking for a fun, easy going all mtn/park ski, that can still handle a little speed under bigger dudes?

Experience with Volkl Revolt 121 in 184cm vs. 191cm length?

Can anyone comment on their experience with differences between the Volkl Revolt 121 in 184cm and 191cm.

Background: I'm considering replacing my dedicated deep powder ski which is a currently the Black Crows Nocta 185cm. I like this length for most of the days when noodling through the trees and tight terrain as it's ultra pivotable but it tends to almost feel a bit short when I open up big turns at higher speeds. My daily driver is the Black Crows Anima 189cm and I like this ski in just about anything.

From the Blister review I read the straight tape pull on the 184cm was actually 182cm and in addition I'm hesitant that the 184cm will feel short with all the rocker & splay unless I mount it back a ways. Kinda leaning toward the 191cm but not sure if it will be too much ski most of the time.

Anyone tried them both and can comment, thanks!!?

191 will put the same amount of ski before your boot re: nocta if that helps. There is massive rocker and lots of taper, your effective edge is short so your issue with moving would be weight alone.

I enjoyed my new M102's so much last season (thanks ACH) that I bought another pair at the Labor Day sale.

MSRP on the M6 was $850, the M102 was $900.

The sale was 60% off, so I bought both.

That equates to ~$750 out the door.

I essentially got the M6 for $100 under retail with no tax.

And a free pair of M102's.

    How ya like them apples?

I love the M4s, the 191s have been my daily driver for the past 2 seasons. They are some of the most versatile skis I’ve ever skied. I sold my 187 Menace 98s a couple seasons ago because the 191 M4 was only marginally slower when ripping big funky moguls. The full rocker with long sidecut does wonders off piste, however they are a bit flexy on piste compared to a true charger like Head Monster 108. They have great edge hold though, one of the best I’ve felt on a full rocker ski.

Also curious about this. I would be mounting -2. This would be a mostly noodling/tree ski, no big open faces.

Saw some reports of tip dive on the 191 which made me nervous about the 184 even at -2.

Nice!! The update to the M102 was a good thing for most skiers. Made the ski a bit more fun and less “comp ski”. The M6 is the best Mantra ever made, IMO.

You’re going have a lot of fast and fun days this season. [emoji6]

We need you up here, DJ! Plus I need to get you your pants black [emoji23] We can all bring our M102s out at Alpental, though hopefully we'll need wider skis.

    Yo!

Thanks, I've been talking the talk about getting back since AlpyBBI19, but to no avail. I'm committed to it this season.
Lmao, those pants are yours unless ya just don't like them. NBD. I gots da gear out the ying yang.
Heard ya had an event recently. Hope it wasn't too severe and that we can turn again soon. Look forward to it...

Hmmm, M6 is the best? You just added another ski to my demo list.

Seems like there was a lot more love for the Mantra 102s than Katana 108s, why is that?

I would not be afraid of sizing up on Revolt 121s - they have very long rocker zones and a shit ton of splay.

Sorry to post this graphic again. Blackops118 and M-Free 118 have around 70mm splay upfront, compared to R121s massive 100mm. When you add that to the long rocker zones you'll end up with a ski that is fairly pivoty, yet retain some traction underfoot on harder surfaces.

I've only skied a few runs on the 184s at roughly -2, and they skied kinda short - if very well - as far as I can remember. I can't remember too much details to be honest other than that I liked them. I also have some time on the Noctas, but only in late season denser snow - not jan/feb dry snow (I thought they were fun too). I would not be terribly surprised if the R121s are even looser in soft snow, in spite of being a fair bit heavier - and a fair bit more potent in variable due to the aforementioned weight.

The only time its the wrong BComb ski (for me) is on harsh refrozen days. Do I wish they were a wee straighter? Yup; a man can dream. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Shouldn't have sold my M102s.

What length M6 are you on Bandit? 184?

Anyone have a bad time mounting the M6 forward of the line a smidge?
I did a lot of second guessing on this ski, it took me almost 3 years to buy a pair (wasn't demoing many skis the past few years) because I was afraid of the 3D radius on refrozen snow. I've been looking for a more easy going Monster 108 or Pro Rider for a while, like the 2012-2014 Katanas, but I don't really want to go too tight on sidecut and don't want to give up any refrozen snow performance as that's the whole point of a ski like this for me. My M4 Mantras are great off piste, but lacking a bit in confidence charging compared to 2014 Katanas.

Legit the past 2 days, I have some growing feelings inside of me to sell them.. I've been reading a lot of reviews talking about how so many people prefer the Mantra 102, because the Katana 108 can feel hooky sometimes in firm off piste. Now I'm overthinking everything, as I do.

I know that if I drill these, and then feel any sort of hookiness, I will be losing money because they will be sold at that point. I don't really ski groomers except to get back to the lift, I will be disappointed if the 191 Katana 108s only are good for heartcarving.

Double post. There are a few pairs of last years 191 Katanas left online for $580ish, if anyone is looking and doesn’t want to spend more for the 2024 model year

Thanks for the graphics, nice to visualize the comparison. I'm pretty sold on going with 191's.

Who has a pair of 191s to sell or trade?

Have Heritage Lab FL105s on the way to me in hopes they'll be the straighter DD I'm after; no metal, but after skiing the HL freeride layup in FL113s, I'm not super worried about it. Marshal has that layup dialed. Will report back once the snow flies.
Bry says he'd only allow me to sell the Katana 108s if it's to get some FL113s haha. I've been asking him questions about this ski for 2 years straight lol.

I'll probably keep the K108s AND add some Bonafide97s to the quiver as well. Thinking about it more, I have straight skis, I could use some rippers that can turn.

Yep, on the 184 M6. Love them on 7th Heaven first thing in the morning when the groomers are firm but not torn up yet. Really nice blend of edge to edge quickness and stability. The 1st Gen M102 has an edge for stability, but the M6 is just more fun. The 3D sidecut makes them edge well but not feel as locked into a certain radius like most 95-ish skis these days.

Mind you, I’ve become a total fan boy of the current 3D sidecut lineup. I have the Kendo 88 (haven’t skied them yet), M6, M102 (1st and 2nd Gen), and K108…all in the 184 length. Lots of overlap, but enjoy the unique character of each.

What even is 3D sidecut? Is it like how other companies blend different sidecuts into one on a ski, like Line Skis “5-cut” on all their models??

    Tip-Waist-Tail
    Katana 108s are 145-108-129. 44m/21m/36m
    Katana 112s are 143-112-132. 28.2m radius

I don’t understand how the tip of the K108 has a longer radius blend than the tail, given the dimensions. The tail of the K108 looks pretty darn straight. Maybe I got this all backwards?

Either way, the tip width and smallest 21m radius on the K108 are not that ridiculous.
