It appears the entire league (especially the Blue Jays) really, really want perennial MVP contender Jose Ramirez.

I don't blame them, but the Tribe really wants him too, and he's due for a massive payday when his club-friendly deal expires in 2 years. In typical CLE fashion, I don't see them making that deal so they'd better get to work now on signing him or risk losing even more of an already sour fanbase.

There is that and then there is Freeman's agent dropping an ultimatum on AA. Seems like that was the trigger to make the trade for Olson.

The whole article is worth a read and includes quotes from Chipper Jones cautioning Freeman to not try and play the Braves.

The sixth year was apparently the sticking point for Freeman and his representatives in their negotiations with the Braves. The six-year, $162 million deal that he agreed to isn’t that much different than the five-year, $140 million offer the Braves had. Who knows if Atlanta had any more wiggle room? It appears that Freeman’s representatives handed out an ultimatum thinking that the Braves would cave and when that didn’t happen, didn’t appear to be fully prepared for anything else.

It was at this point Chipper Jones had a discussion with Freddie Freeman and told him, “You’re playing a dangerous, dangerous game … They will move on without you, because Alex has a job to do. If he doesn’t do that job, he puts his job in jeopardy.”

Truer words have never been spoken. We’ve witnessed time and again with AA that once he reaches a limit on what he’s willing to do, he won’t go past that limit.

At any rate I hope the best for Freeman and the Braves and predict that in 5-6 years Freeman will be back in Atlanta for his final year.

The Tribe, er, Guardians as of today have the third-lowest payroll in baseball, only ahead of Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

The Browns' new quarterback will make more money next year than the entire payroll of the Tribe.

That new CBA really seems to be working out; good thing they can breed Cy Young winners on the cheap, otherwise they'd be relegated to AAA.

Not much on TV tonight so I clicked on this replay of BoSox-Tigers game from 2008. A well-known game, because a hawk swooped down and nailed a rat (or something) off the grass and flew off with it during the game. But Remy and Orsillo in the booth, Tito in the dugout, Manny, Papi, Pedroia, Youk, Tek...them were the days.
