    Longest, Tightest, Mid-Fat?

    For the Tall Tele Mens:
What non custom skis would anyone recommend that approach 190cm, have a turn radius of 18m or less, a 100ish-110ish waist, have enough effective edge and weight to make groomers groovy, and have enough tip to get away with a powder day?

Only option I can see is the DPS 100RP.

    Thanks for the help!

Atris is right there too but it’s a 20m.

Close calls. The tight radius is an important feature because it’s really difficult to generate the same edge angles Tele that you can when alpine skiing, and harder to control a carve Tele when hauling ass… though I try

What kinda mount point is desired? Tele makes me think further back? I think the Atris of '23 is getting thinner and more turny.

The near-centered Nexus is 18m at 189 and 108mm if you can find one..

Closest I can find at this moment is the Declivity 102ti at 18.5m but the tip might be small, and the going-out 107ti with a 19m radius but beefy lad.

    Enforcers sound good.
    Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
    Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason

Under 18m is hard and I feel like the whole industry admits that radius numbers are a bit of voodoo

Some random options, besides DPS, that cross over your criteria:

    J Hotshot 189cm, 106mm, 19m, 2450g
    4FRNT MSP 187cm, 99mm, 19m, 2150g
    Meier Big Hoss 191cm, 104mm, 19m, 1900g
    Romp Zorro 190cm, 100mm, 19m, 2000g
    Fatypus M5cm 188mm, 106cm, 15m, ~1800g
    Lib UFO 105 185cm, 18m, 1800g
Fischer Ranger 99 or 102 come in around 19m, 2000g

    Those look damn fun.

Seems like camber profile and how much “energy” u like to input has a lot to do with “how” you use the sidecut. But I dunno shit about tele. Hell, I don’t know shit about alpine and didn’t even stay at a holiday in express last night.

Ahhhh the great Tele mount debate. Tempted by that tangent, but I’ll just say that if a ski meets these criteria I can make it work with the exception of a Sir Francis bacon. I would break the tail of that ski instantly.
Thanks for the recs! Both are fair contenders.

Yeah, the radius voodoo is definitely a challenge to interpret.

Hahahahah. Yeah, I guess I could just fuck it and get hellbents.

In general, it’s hard to drive and angle skis in a Tele turn, so the tighter and softer end of the spectrum tend to be the most fun because the ski is willing to bend. Preference dictates the weight // dampness vs liveliness factor. Down the middle of that road works for me.

doesn’t tele exist to create a niiiice radius out of stupid straight skis?

I like a longer radius on my skis, I've found 22-24m to be the sweet spot for firm snow, and +/-30m to be good for powder/soft conditions. Longer radius=fewer turns=less work. Tele skiing is hard work yo! 18m skis wear me the fuk out on groomers haha. And if I want to ski a longer radius ski tighter I usually can, but skiing a short radius ski in long carves feels hooky and choppy. Everyone is different though.

Excatly. Best ski I ever had for tele was the Rossi Ravyn / S6. Pretty much excatly the ski you're describing except from being slightly shorter at 185 (?).

I'm probably picking up a tele set-up next year, in order to make it easier to start moving around the bunny hill with the kid. That, and the fact that I miss tele.

The one that really shines for me is the Enforcer Free 104. Has sidecut, not too much tail rocker, medium flex. If Dynastar made the M-free 108 in a 187-ish it would be very interesting.

Maybe Solly QST 106 could be it? Rustler 10 should be it, but everyone says it's shite, so it's of the list. Maybe MSP 107, if you like slightly more centre mount?

Labor of love!… (and love hurts)

If I wasn’t totally obsessed with carving turns in a Tele stance I would be with you 100%, and I’m not even the best turn farmer I know! The compromise with free riding off piste is definitely worth considering for sure. The other thing is that most of the groomers where I’m at (Whitefish) tend to be steep enough for long enough to warrant help from a tighter ski. Starving turns Tele on corduroy is not that fun, but arcing on the rail with a Tele stance is simply sensational.

To me, it doesn't make sense to have a long ski with a short radius.
Long means you can charge, short radius means instability.

SGN Rakkar may fit the bill. 185cm, 107 waist, 18m radius, 2120g, plenty of tip splay

You don't pay Norwegian VAT when importing so take 25% off the website price when converted to USD. If total is under $800, you don't pay US import tax either

Fair enough. The longer the effective edge on a tight radius the more hooky a ski will feel. That’s an unavoidable compromise. I don’t mind a bit of tip and tail taper to round things off in that regard.

Got any feedback on the “3d radius”? Do the tips like to engage or is it a from the foot kind of carving?
