Russia's most advanced anti tank system is called "The Olaf Scholz" -- Darth Putin
While the beaver story is very likely rooted in reality, the telling of it seems like something between a next level troll and a psy-op, too. Clearly Russia hopes to use the threat of Northern invasion to fix some Ukrainian forces and keep them from action elsewhere. Responding with "Meh. Beavers got this" is maybe the most Ukrainian thing yet.

The beaver story more or less indicates the terrain hazards for vehicles. Think dense wet Minnesota/Canadian forests. Apart from roads which serve as kill zones for artillery, it's very difficult to move through. The movie 'Vesper' (recommended) filmed in Lithuania gives an indication of what it looks like:

But that may only be true of the public campaign. Hopefully. Probably better to keep quiet about longer range rockets anyway, but I do hope we're sending stuff with more reach than tanks. We've got a few old A-10's, too, if we're talking about scrap.
A-10s. Oh yes, sign me up. Forecast calls for Fuckloads of brrrrrrrrt, with more brrrrrrrrt. Unfortunately, Russians still got [mobile] air defense, da?

Maybe A-10's just need more HARMS and HARMS-related accessories? Netherlands supplying F-16's sounds kinda hopeful.

My first instinct is that I'd rather see Russians starved into surrender by reaching supply lines behind them. But I know nothing. Maybe Russia moved every target back or maybe Ukraine decided better a Bachmut than a Bucha.

    Tank talk motherfucker

    Tanks? Really?

There’s so much more lethal shit short of nukes.
    And y’all are demanding tanks?

How’s about a truce. Cease fire. Draw new lines. Let Putin have Donbas. Let Ukraine survive. Let our children and grandchildren stop sending billions to this stupid war.

Seems Russia is building up for a major offensive with lessons learned from prior failures. The goal being to make major advances and then sue for peace with Russia being able to claim victory.

First sentence is from reading NYT and second my guess at Russia’s desired outcome

Putin only engages in perpetual conflict. In the past couple of decades Russian leaders continuously freeze conflicts, after forcing concessions, before continuing their war again later. They've done this either directly or through mercenaries against:

    • Chechnya
    • Moldova
    • Georgia
    • Armenia & Azerbaijan
    • Countries in Africa
    • Syria
    • Ukraine

The only way to break the Russian cycle of war & genocide is to arm Ukraine. If you want peace, Ukraine needs to be armed like a de facto or official NATO member to deter Russia from more aggression in the future.

What events were those? Do you mean the january 6th bullshit?

Does not disprove my point at all. I even described it. Angry at a each in some sort of performative culture war bullshit that doesn't actually hold anyone accountable.

No? Any reason you want to be vague instead of actually articulating your point?

We could take out Putin any day.

    No need for a nuke.
Tactical drone or missile strike or even a sniper.

And yet. We put ordinary Russians and Ukrainians through a meat grinder like it’s World War One. Yay.
    We’re winning. Something.

If "WE" take out Putin then "WE" will have committed a direct act of war. You want to go down that road?

a10s really aren't meant to operate against modern air defenses. They're great for the war on terror and they're really capable as bomb or missle trucks, being able to carry as much ordinance as a b52 in some loadouts, albeit with much shorter range, although also with the ability to operate out of all sorts of not so nice runways.

They would be very effective in an all out war directly against russia or china where f35s could operate within the area of air defenses but use their sensor fusion capabilities to guide munitions from a10s operating from dispersed small ad hoc airfields outside the air defense envelope of the enemy. This combo makes up for the lack of capacity for stealth aircraft to carry much ordinance.

Theres been a lot of research that shows the brrrrrt isn't that effective against modern armor. bmps sure. Tanks less so. Actually hitting tanks with that cannon is not super easy, either with actual hit rates being abysmally low with highly trained pilots.

Besides we aren't making any more and we need them.

Plus, the ukrainians wouldn't be able to maintain them. This is why we were fine giving jets to iran because they're all trash now basically.

What then? Victory toasts all around, then what?

Reminds me of George W's mission accomplished speech on the carrier. What came next?

Putin might already be dead or dying anyways, but what comes next after that? A failed state with tons of nukes?

Actual support of putin among russians so super low, both from what I know from news outlets and from talking to russians on reddit who say bascially no one is pro putin except for a few old babushkas. Even so these russians are scared to see what happens when putin dies. None of them have a prediction of any sort, just uncertainty. If anyone is going to take out putin its gotta be the russians though.

Keep in mind some UKR T-80s have "gas" turbines but they run on almost any fuel including diesel. The M1` turbine is also capable of using almost any fuel.

Germany talks out of both sides of their mouth... all DefMin Pistorius:
"US must first send tanks if Germany is expected to."
"US doesn't have to send tanks now, just someday."
"Germany won't send tanks but others can."
Fwiw, in the first Gulf War we ran the same fuel in most vehicles and aircraft, including the Abrams. The only vehicles using gasoline were motor cycles and some GM utility pickups.

If we can provide M1s to Egypt & SA and they can manage it I am pretty sure the Ukrainians can manage it as well.
