This week I’m headed up to Canada for 10 days of powder highway road trippin so here’s hoping my absence brings snow to the Sierras

Just to throw my 1c in on the Mammoth skis discussion - I think Mammoth is the right place to ski longer radius skis with some backbone. There is more wide open than super tight - most of the trees aren't mega dense. The snow is heavy, conditions can be variable, and it gets tracked out and choppy pretty fast most days. Being able to blast through crud makes Mammoth more enjoyable - light skis are more work at Mammoth IMO.

^^ I concur, I like having steamrollers beneath my feet.

My M102s were just right for the hard conditions I found.

Your comments and those above have been very helpful. I have always thought the same, but feels like this season I've been thinking about skiing more than actually skiing....and the mind starts to wander. Thanks to those who commented for helping me snap me out of it. I try to keep my ski choice pretty simple. Don't fix what ain't broke.

I do see quite a bit of love for zero camber skis, which I don't think I have ever tried. Maybe if an opportunity pops up at some point in the future, I will try to get on a pair.

I've got a pair of 2017 184 Volkl Mantras that are flat underfoot and I just cannot get them to work for me on groomers. Super fun off-piste, very quick edge-to-edge, but the flat camber underfoot causes the outside tip to wander on me while trying to carve. Happy to let ya try em if your BSL works and you're interested.

Hi, this is a reminder that hackers have been getting into accounts with stsle old passwords and causing mayhem scamming people in gear swap.

Update your passwords, be wary in gear swap, report suspect activity!

Winds are building out of the West. Gusts to 60 mph at the top of G2.
    Skiing is pretty good today.

The section of lower Climax just after the choke is really good windblown.

Far skiers right of Climax (dry creek) had a couple of fun lines down it.
Headed back out as I feel that lift closures are imminent.

Around 1:30 pm lifts started shutting down one after another as the winds kept building, but the skiing got better and better. Considering it’s been dry for close to 50 days, skiing was great today.

Thank you for the kind offer! I'm a lightweight, 145 lbs, so don't think they would work for me but I really appreciate the offer.

Praying for a Miracle March as the long term (2 week) forecast is bleak as fuck.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Yo Ott! I did the same. Totally worth it.

Early Saturday morning, weather alerts started popping up on my iphone forecasting for "building SW winds on Sunday, etc..."

That and the fact Sunday was blacked out for the base Ikon pass was enough to get me headed down to Mammoth early Sunday morning. Glad I did as I got in a great day of skiing with spots on the upper mtn skiing really well. Got on the hill just after 9:00 a.m. and skied till closing.
G2 & ch 23 stayed open all day as winds were gusting to 50-60 mph.
Only line I got caught in all day was when Goldrush went dawn late in the day as I was trying to get back to CL. Skied right onto Ch 23 all day, biggest wait at Mid for G2 was 1-2 minutes in the singles line. Here's a few pics from Sunday.

Dropout. These guys came in from the top, which entails picking your way in over some rock hard, wind scoured bumps with a few rocks in-between them. Go slow and don't fall. Once you're in, snows good after that.

Usually at this time of year Wipeouts are one of my go to runs in the afternoon as it gets that late day sun. Haven't really skied it much this season as the Cornice side of 23 has been much better.

Wipeout 3/The Hump was buffed out and filled in by the wind. Best I've seen it this season. Skied here til the Top closed. By then it was getting really cold and my legs were done. Awesome day.

Earlier today from Sherwin Cr Rd where I'm doing my best iPhone Ansel Adams imitation. Took my bro's dogs for a walk cuz there's
no skiing today. It's blown out with everything on wind hold. Around noon School Yard Ex (ch 17) finally opened.
The forecast over the next couple days is favoring Tahoe with up to a foot of new snow possible by Wednesday so I'm going to head North. Short trip but definitely worth it to me.

    Nice shots as always ESS!

Those spots you pointed out were great the last time I was up, which was several weeks ago.

Baldy has been good and I've been slow about planning trips. I'm about to be a bit less busy so I should get a few in March and April, probably a couple of 3 day trips and a couple of 4-5 day trips. I'll be up either next weekend or the weekend after next for 3 days and then a 5 day trip during the week to close out March, followed by a couple of April trips. I'm hoping the pattern has shifted by late March, but I love Climax when it is skiing like this. I think what I'm most bummed about, other than the fact that I have spent so little time at Mammoth this year in comparison to seasons past, is that the noids got hosed by the slide from the huge storm. I was up for a few days around Dec 20 and P3 was skiing REALLY well. It would be nice to get some of that again.....

Good but cold morning out there. 6" most places, where it blew in there was a foot+. Even got some face shots where it had blown in since it was so light. It was 9degrees at ch2 at 830 w/ a NW wind making it chilly. Great morning, nice to have some of that white stuff blowing in my face for a change.

Wow, insanely surprised to find bottomless blower off the Dragon's Back this morning. Found myself in the right place at the right time after running a couple of pleasant untracked laps through the trees between Gold Hill & Ch9 from the top of Ch5. Saw that Ch9 popped and scored three laps out the traverse. Dropped in basically the same spot on each run and hardly crossed any tracks with bountiful fluff all up in my face. Worth the frozen digits. Awesome morning. Winter is back.

I’ll be in town Friday pm - Sunday if anyone’s around and wants to make some turns. Long time KW guy, squaw pass holder last few years, but I rarely ski MMT. I’ll also have my touring gear with me.

Sounds like it’s going back to Spring conditions this weekend.

I know Alex and Chad from skiing KW. Slide into my PMs if you want to ski or grab a beer in the evening.

Beautiful day today. Only out for a few runs, mostly watching the kids race the JVC. (Junior Village Champs)

Shout out to FastSki. I clipped a tiny rock with my Legend Pro 105's, in the midget size so pretty much a unicorn, causing a core shot and to pull the edge away from the ski a bit. Kittredge said to hang them on the wall. Matt at FastSki said he could fix them up. [emoji1696][emoji1690][emoji3555]
