Does anyone have both the Sakana and Blade? I have and love the first year Sakanas, and could get a pair of the first year Blades for a good deal. Are they too similar to sit in the same quiver?

I do. Love the Sakana and when I first had them they kind of blew my mind. Got Blades because I loved the Sakanas an they further blew my mind. Depends how big your quiver is, but they can live side by side. Blade is mainly a ridiculously fun groomer ski. Sakana is more versatile, but definitely a step down from the blade on piste. My Blades have been getting more days then my Sakanas in the last two seasons. If you’re getting a good deal, snag the Blades and try them out.

I would if I had a jig, but I've never been able to get my hands on an STH2 jig for a reasonable price

    Paper templates aren't too complicated.

There's a whole thread about it...

I've mounted 40+ pairs with paper templates, but none have had metal. I'm not inclined to spent extra for the SlideWright bit that is meant to work with a jig. 4.1mm bit was $10 on Amazon

If you're drilling skis with metal with a 4.1mm bit, you'll want to tap the holes too. Not sure you'll find the proper tap on amazon.

    Line Blade

I, uh, mounted my line blades by hand using a paper template and 3.6mm bit for FKS/pivot.

    Didn’t die.
    focus.

What will happen if I don't tap? Volcanoes?

3.6 with no tap with metal is a good way to delam the layers. Not saying it happens every time but there is a reason the manufacturer tells you what bit to use on the top sheet. Good luck with the aids.

Blades are so ridiculously fun, especially spring sloppy skiing which has been most of our season around me.

Alright, I think it’s time for me to admit it. For me and my type of skiing, owning the Blade doesn’t make sense.

Living in Utah, I’m either skiing soft snow on something wider when conditions are good, or skiing the terrain park when conditions are firm/sunny.

The Blades are super fun on groomers, and can make a tighter turn than anything else in my double digit quiver of skis. But I don’t use them enough to justify owning them.

I’ll post up pairs of 181 Blades with STH2s and a pair of 176 used Blades with Attack demos soon on GearSwap, hope to sell them that way instead of EBay or KSL.

Last shameless bump, no interest in the 181 or 176 Blades on GearSwap so far. If no maggots are interested then I’ll move on to others ways of selling them.

I did 4.1 no tap and didn't have any volcanoes, YMMV.

Such a fun ski. They feel like a Sakana but more aggressive and more inclined to lean over. Very happy I picked up a pair

The more I look at them the more they remind me of my (2007?) Rossi Z9s.

The Z9s measured 126-74-105 and were often remarked as having a "huge tip".

Bumping the middle up to be 95 means +21. Applied all around would be 147-95-126. Not too far off from the blades at 154-95-124, blades are a bit more pin tailed.. but it's not a crazy difference.

Radius on my 170 Z9s was 14.8, and Blades is "tight".

I really enjoyed those skis, great fun on groomers and remarkably good NASTAR skis when I would jump in and often beat my ski school buddies with "race backgrounds" when I'd never raced.

Just getting more and more stoked to get on them.

Should be mounting by the end of the week, hope to get at least a day or two on them before the left served EC season goes to bust..

Just picked up a set of 181s for skiing with the kid and fucking around. Skis have plugged holes for spx on the line at around my bsl or open holes for wardens that will put me around -1.5cm. All my other skis are super directions mounts like -10 or further back, am I going to regret mounting these a little back so I can use the open holes and wardens from my stash or should I find some pivots or spx to be on the line?

Took my wife’s 174’s for a ride on a crusty day and holy balls are they fun. Didn’t even feel short, which was odd. Laying train tracks with them is soooo much fun.
