You have to translate that. Are you talking river flow vs. rainfall? How can you do that?

And that sounds really contradictory. Either you're in a desert, or you "get" a lot of water.

"Deserts are arid ecosystems that receive fewer than 25 centimeters (10 inches) of precipitation a year. Death Valley, California, above, receives fewer than 5 centimeters (2 inches) of rainfall every year. ... Deserts are areas that receive very little precipitation."

We got nearly 10 inches during dinnertime.

Do you understand what drainage is? 30 miles from my house it gets over 100” of precipitation in a year. A large portion of that drains through our town. The Columbia river averages about 100k cubic feet a second through our town. That’s plenty of water.

You'll blow his mind with the fact that you have water from Canadian glaciers in your desert.

Benny do you really not know how rivers work? We learned about Egypt in elementary school, I figured you're old enough to have visited at the peak.

Jfc. We don't live off rainfall that happened a hundred miles from here. It rains on top of us. Water is everywhere. It's hardly ever a problem. It's green. We don't live in a fantasy world where it's ok to live in a rainless place, because it's going to come from somewhere else. That's why, Las Vegas Phoenix. Fuck, L.A.. That shit is not sustainable.

Yeah, denial. Have you seen the Hoover Dam bathtub ring? And yet, that county in southern Utah, what is it, Prince George or something? One of the fastest growing retiree/second home areas in the state. They all have a straw in Lake Mead

The Columbia river and the Colorado are very different things. Look at a map.

Are you a local everywhere because every town needs its idiot?

Ok, so this is some sort of game. Columbia. NW. Ok. So, where exactly is somebody talking about living off the Columbia?

I am. I can see it from my living room. You should visit the PNW sometime. Large portions of it are very arid with lots of water that flows out of the mountains. The three counties with the lowest electricity rates in the country are adjacent and in the desert, in WA. The Columbia doesn’t run dry before it reaches the ocean. I can drive 45 minutes from my house in the desert and be in a literal temperate rainforest.

Oh, just thinking. You referred to the Nile here. Are you speaking of ancient times of pharohs and pyramids, or, today, with millions living in Cairo and Ethiopia building a dam to choke that off? Bombing to come. Or the Mekong, which is being sucked dry by the Chinese, and soon may not make it to it's famous delta, like we starved the Colorado a long time ago, and it dries out before the ocean, where it used to empty.
You think your rivers won't end up like that?

Do you think large portions of the eastern seaboard won’t wind up underwater? I’m talking about now. I and many generations will be dead a long time before the Columbia possibly dries up.

Been there, driven along the length of that river. C'mon, man, it rains on most of the population in that state. A lot. Doesn't count.

Doesn’t count? I’ll concede that it rains a lot in the Cascades and west of the crest but almost half the state is arid or semi arid

I used to think the willfully dim didn't survive long, I guess I'm glad to learn that's not true.

I was referring to a long time ago. I know about the big hydropower projects on the Nile and the downstream fuckery they are causing now.
The Columbia has lots of dams on it right now.

Are you talking about the Snake? Even the Snake has more than twice the average discharge than the Hudson.

Yeah, because, you know, people. Lots and lots of people. And every one of them needs water.

Fucking state with a rainforest doesn't count.

Oh, you started off dissing “The West”. The Columbia drains parts of WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, UT and NV as well as BC. Doesn’t get much more western than that.
