Came home. Contractions mellowed way out and I’ve been feeding her spicy foods all day. Too cold to borrow the neighbors trampoline. Hurrying up and waiting!

You know semen is supposed to be the best way to induce?

What do you think started the contractions yesterday in the first place?

Little man made his arrival yesterday evening. He was sunny side up and a tough push for mom but his cone head is back to normal and they’re doing great. Wasn’t without some drama, when we called the hospital we were using to give them a heads up we were on the way back in they said sorry, we’re full! Best of luck! Quick plan B and all was well.

Junior is 15 months. I dont think the whole family has been healthy in months. Its just a constant cycle of sickness. I know its part of building his immune system and whatnot but damn its just a constant cycle.

Kinda funny- he had his first stomach bug late last week and was puking and diarrhea... but he was oddly in a pretty darn good mood through it all and was eating and drinking like a growing champ. But when he would puke while being held, it would be a lot and would splash everywhere... every damn time he would puke and then burst into laughter and giggles at the noise and mess he created. And then 30seconds later would use his sign language to indicate he was hungry and wanted to eat again haha. Puke and Rally!!!

So you delivered the kid yourself in the car by the side of the road? Nice work man!

Fatherhood anonymous; an open discussion on being a dad.

After a few years in the wilderness, all 3 kids are suddenly super into skiing again. We went for a year or so where none of them really wanted to do it more than once or twice a year, and then they traded off for a few years where one or two of them were really into it with the other one or two dragging the whole thing down.

It’s super cool, but also exhausting and expensive as they turn into little gear heads and are angling to hit the hill every day. My youngest is due for a completely new setup for her birthday (currently in rentals, she somehow landed in between the lineup of sizes we have from the older two), which is a couple days after christmas, and I think she suspects she’s getting skis/boots. Now we have a bit of a Situation where she’s with her mom for her birthday but wants me to take her skiing (my ex has decided she will not spend money or time on skiing, which puts her on the outside a little). Running into some more advanced concepts of selflessness and respect as I counsel her to consider others and boundaries, even on her birthday.

All in all, though, good times.
    focus.

Never occurred to me they could divert your delivery. May I ask what plan B was? Different hospital I assume?

We have the big 20 week ultrasound next week. I can tell my wife is nervous, I’m excited because I hear we’ll be able to make her face out a bit better. I will say every time they hold the ultrasound up to my wife’s belly, the baby freaks out. She’s constantly Turing in circles and kicking and banging her head. Seems the jury is out on whether they can hear it. Some say it sounds like a train coming into a station.

That’s tough, but I think you’re doing the right thing to encourage her to be patient and respect her mother. Building character and creating a united “parents” model will benefit you as you age. Too many co-parents rejoice in these minor popularity victories and don’t realize they’re modeling drama that their kids will take into their other relationships.

    This.
    And yeah, right thing.

What ages are you looking for gear?

We have a lot of friends going through similar dynamics, some better than others. Sounds like you're in a good headspace for that piece.

    Good luck.

Dad with two sons maybe 5-7 y/o at the top of a steep, scraped off groomer (Siberia face at Olympic Valley). Kids are paralyzed with fear. Dad urging the older one to go. I watched while he managed to make one shaky turn and stopped. I didn't stay to see the rest. No dad, this is not how to teach kids to ski. It's how to teach them to hate skiing. We've all made the mistake; hopefully just once.

(Same day I shared a chair with an instructor and four little kids. Instructor was Argentinian. He was in a VERY good mood. Kids have fun with good instructors. Challenged but not overwhelmed.)

Temps dropping yesterday from 2 until the lifts closed. I’m teaching a 6 year old never ever. I think tears are exponentially linked to drop in temp as the sun continues to hide behind the mountains. Looking around about half the kids are in tears, but they’re all with their parents. None of the kids in ski school are crying. Hmm…..

Do we have some special no tear formula? No. We just don’t over terrain our kids and we go inside when they want. Easy peasy.

Done that enough times at work to know I don’t need my wife or an Ambulance crew going through that.

Over terrain. That's it in a nutshell. And so easy to do to someone. Since my kids are snowboarders and I am not, I left that to the pros. Win win because I could ski what and where I wanted and meet for lunch and breaks. And then at the end of the day, maybe take a few runs on something that they wanted to do if they had gas left in the tank. Them guiding me down a run they learned earlier and pointing out hits or lines was awesome. Shout out to Smuggler's Notch Mitey Mites program. So much awesome.

Mrs SnapT is a labor nurse and knows the pros and cons of each local hospital. Had an induction scheduled at her preferred hospital the day after her due date. Went into labor at 38 and 6 and went in due to pretty close contractions. Went home for a couple days as she wasn’t very dilated. 3 days later contractions ramped back up and she projectile vommited. Hopped in the car and gave them an hour or so heads up to which they replied, sorry were full, drive someplace fast, good luck! The other hospital in town had one labor room available when we called. Otherwise we would have headed toward Pocatello and kept on trucking to Utah if they were full.

I taught my own kids to ski back in the day cuz I didn't have money for the pro but with my grand kids I just whipped out the visa and paid for the 1st lesson/ equipment yada yada

IME it was easier but also they skied better with the pro even tho Craig the ski instructor doesnt have any kids but he is better at teaching kids than I

pay the pro if you can

also book the lesson for just after lunch cuz they tire pretty quick

Part of the special formula is no parents. The same reason you send the parents out of the room to sew up a laceration. Part of it is skill. Padt of it is other kids.
My kid was on Squaw ski patrol, then med school and surgery residency, the special ops training with SEER, cold immersion, and 100# hikes up Mt. Charleston, then operating on the people who got blown up at the Kabul airport. He still says the hardest job he ever had was teaching 3-5 s to ski. So good on you for doing it.
