    Bootfitter question about shell/liner sizing

I want to buy a Scarpa F1 boot - my shell size is 30.5/31. Does anybody know: is the size difference between 30.5 and 31 achieved with a thicker liner or something else (insole?). And: would it theoretically be possible to achieve the 31 fit (lengthwise) by stretching/heat molding the 30.5 liner? My feet are rather low volume, so I thought it might be better to order the 30.5 instead of the 31. But out of the box the 31 was more comfortable...
    Thanks

With Scarpa, there is no difference between a half size and the next full size up. They are unique in this sizing break.

If you are trying to fill volume, go with the 31 liner, it shrinks in length slightly when cooked. I assume you are talking about a Pro Tour? If so, they have 3 volume options, both medium volume and high volume are thicker than the stock liner.

If they fit comfortably out of the box, then one of 2 things- either they are too big for your foot and you probably if wanting a great fit go down in size and then have a bit of work done on them after you mold the liner for a spot or 2 that have pressure. Or your foot is really truly average and just shaped right for this boot. Of course there are many boot fitting discussions on here- start with a shell fitting- pull the liner out and see how the foot fits with the toes touching the front of the boot, then measure how much space you have at the heel of the boot. If it is more than a than a finger then you may want to go down in size as the liners pack out even after being molded. Do you have access to someone that can do boot fitting for you? If so then probably best to be discussing this with them also.

Thanks a lot for all the answers. I think the shell size is right - did the finger test and have been skiing a 30.5/31 shell in my Maestrale RS for years. I'm just not sure if I should buy the 30.5 or 31 liner since the 31 was very comfortable out of the box and the 30.5 might need some molding...but might be better in the long run?

You can always make a boot bigger and fit better, but you can't as easily (unless you go with a different liner or something) take up volume once the boot packs out after a bit of time skiing it. Take GregL's comments into consideration- he has experience with many boots and fitting. Also you have not clarified with a response to his questions-

Thanks. I think my current/old Maestrale RS has a Pro Tour liner (don't know which volume option?). Not sure about the new F1? On some pages it says "Pro Flex Evo liner".

You mean you think you bought a Pro Tour liner, or you are skiing the OEM liner with Scarpa branding? If you bought it aftermarket, and didn't purchase directly from Intuition, chances are it is MV (SVST is the distributor for the US, and they only sell MV).

I'm skiing the OEM liner which came with the Scarpa Maestrale RS. But people told me it is similar to a pro tour? At least that is what these guys say: https://blisterreview.com/gear-revie...a-maestrale-rs

"There’s a lot of packing out that happens with the Intuition Pro Tour (which is the stock liner for this boot), so I’d plan for a longer break-in period and buckle the boots a little less snugly while cooking the liners and forming them to your feet. "
