Today was the very first time anyone has ever checked. I had always wondered why they bothered to put my picture on it because it’s never been checked before. Well now I know.
Yeah, I was checked on Monday, called my by my name and everything...it was a tire guy, so thought he was just doing it to keep himself entertained. But sounds like a new policy based on others posts.

Then I'm fucked because my pic on my card doesn't look anything like anybody, can barely tell it's a picture.

Eh, when i first graduated college and was living with buddies we used a Coscto card found on the ground with a picture of an older black lady on it. We were called out on it many times, but the cashiers just made us pay in cash. No biggie.

That's what mine's like. It's nearly unrecognizable as a human being...

My card doesn't have a pic on it.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

At my local they just look to see you have a card to get in, they don't actually look at it. I don't even have to get it out of my wallet.

In self checkout you can get away with it for sure. I use the app and just scan a QR code

Nope, I went to self checkout. They had two guys in nicer clothes standing with a wheeled cart and two laptops checking cards.

They have never looked at my card on the way in the 25+ years I've been going there. Just flashing it or pulling it part way out is enough. Same for the people in front of and behind me. Because they check to make sure the card is valid before you can complete your purchase. But, ever since COVID started they have you hold it up from a distance so they can scan the barcode. They don't actually touch it.

Heh. I love my avatar picture. Thing #1 drew it in 7th or 8th grade as a caricature of me.

I've been to Costcos in both Utah (Farmington, Ogden) and the Bay Area quite recently (the latter today), I usually use self-checkout, and nobody ever looks at my card except when I enter the store (where they don't look closely enough to see if the picture on the card is even human).

Was at costco today. No change from normal. Flash card on the way in. Card gets scanned at checkout. Receipt gets checked on the way out.

Card has been scanned at checkout since early covid or earlier, can't recall. Late last year they started requiring card scan at the food court as well.

Local Costco bakery makes a mean Works Bagel at a fair price. Except they are not sliced.

Extra points when slathered with honey smoked salmon spread.

Was doing my yearly costco run yesterday with my family and they said they implemented the new card checking policy last Thursday, so it is definitely a thing.

I was at Costco yesterday and nothing beyond the usual flash the badge at the entrance. I separately bought glasses, food, and a hot dog. No picture scrutiny. I use a Costco visa card, so maybe I get special dispensation.

Do they have a system where your digital picture shows up on their screen? Are they looking at the actual card -- which has an indecipherable pic -- or at the digital version which presumably is clearer?

the closest costco in PG couldn't make the bakery pay cuz they made stuff mandated by head office that nobody wanted to buy so they hire a local baker who said he could make money. Except they wouldn't listen so baker bro was down the road and i would assume the bakery still loses money

They actually got a decent picture on mine. They only looked at the card but did have laptops there with a barcode scanner plugged in. Probably just for Nick.

Kevin's Thai Coconut Chixken rocks. Kick it up a notch or two by adding chunks of peppers and onions, plus a bit of extra Coconut milk to make more cream. Serve over rice.

Yes, I like pepper on my food.
