I carry my avy shovel. Other than that, i mostly rely on hope.

But really, i do the ol' reverse-drive-reverse-drive... rocking thing, throw mats under the tires, offer beer/bud to pushers, all the classics.

One thing to keep in mind is that your tires have much better traction when pointed in the direction you are going (not the direction you want to be going haha), so if you do get stuck, check to see that you dont have the wheels cranked into a turn.

But even prepared people make mistakes. I carry an old BCA shovel and tow straps.
Well, I'd disagree with maybe, but with a 'tude , it's probably best to just roll on by as a gawker.

So the OP got his Subie stuck. That takes some talent or bad luck. Car was high centered. Only way out is shovel out the underside of the car. So what to carry in a Subie? The biggest avy shovel you can find and a tarp to lie on. And kitty litter.
A few people feel the rain. Most people just get wet.

    yep.
Bonus points if a tire digs down to pavement and starts smoking. This method has been successfully tested on with both a 74 Camaro and a 78 Cutlass Supreme.

If it's anything beyond shovel a launch pad, put chains on and give a boost I'm not real willing to help. If someone is stuck, already shovelling and has a tow strap out I'll give them pull but I'm not real interested in helping someone figure out how to hook up their Audi with bald all seasons.

I did not get my subie stuck. Helped a surburban get unstuck. Just seeing if I should add items to my subie. Also curious on what other methods for getting unstuck. But now I’ve jinxed myself

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

DOn't use a tow strap ever, use a recovery strap and don't be anywhere near someone getting pulled out. Turn off traction control. Do small slow controlled rocking back-and-forth before trying the method of flooring it + rocking. Build a ramp for the wheels to get out, not a pit in front of them. Undercarriage should be cleared. Straighten wheels, go downhill....what am I forgetting?

A lot of stuck and wrecked Subies in my local this weekend. Glad you weren’t one too OP. Carry a shovel and Carry on.

Not much you can do with a high centered vehicle other than digging, towing, or both. Kitty litter or traction pads aren't gonna do much if the vehicle's wheels aren't on the ground, no?
    No longer stuck.

nylon tug-em strap and heavy truck , my buddy would offer to pull them out for a jug of beer or they can wait/pay 100$ to the tow truck driver from town, hand the end of the hook to the guy and tell him to hook it somewhere good that won't pull parts off of his car, hook in back up quickly the strap is like a big rubber band and the car springs out of the ditch, I remember pulling the sway bar mount off of a nova but it was still cheaper than waiting for the tow truck
