and I see that CO's program was not necessarily a reintroduction ( to my reading there were already wolves in CO ), but rather an attempt to stabilize the species through the importation of BritishColumbia-n wolves.

    Not-quite the same thing.

    Thanks again.

Bump - some fucking asshole killed the breeding male of the nascent pack near me. Unlikely the pregnant female and four yearlings will survive.

The reward for catching this cocksucker now exceeds $30,000

Big man, poaching a wolf. Rugged, individualist, outdoorsman and guardian of all things wild and free, no doubt.

I hope they nail this asshole, not that it will change the attitudes of the poaching-sympathisers and shoot, shovel, shut up mouth breather incels of course.

"SOUND ON. You’re hearing the first howl of a dire wolf in over 10,000 years. Meet Romulus and Remus—the world’s first de-extinct animals, born on October 1, 2024.

The dire wolf has been extinct for over 10,000 years. These two wolves were brought back from extinction using genetic edits derived from a complete dire wolf genome, meticulously reconstructed by Colossal from ancient DNA found in fossils dating back 11,500 and 72,000 years. This moment marks not only a milestone for us as a company but also a leap forward for science, conservation, and humanity. From the beginning, our goal has been clear: “To revolutionize history and be the first company to use CRISPR technology successfully in the de-extinction of previously lost species.” By achieving this, we continue to push forward our broader mission on—accepting humanity’s duty to restore Earth to a healthier state.

But this isn’t just our moment—it’s one for science, our planet, and humankind. All of which we love and are passionate about. Now, close your eyes and listen to that howl once more. Think about what this means for all of us."

Played the direwolf video for my dog, who is pretty wolfy. She thought it was her long-lost puppies. Bad human.

And what happens next next for the direwolf pups? Do they get adopted? Released to the wild?

Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to your body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this: you will outlive the bastards." – Edward Abbey
