Athletic Brewing makes some damn good N/A beers. The Mexican lager with a little lime tickles my fancy, and I’d you’re into IPAs or stouts theirs are more than passable. The are a standalone company that exclusively makes N/A beer which I think is cool and it’s telling in the end product

It was harder to make your declaration as a drug addict in an AA meeting than an NA meetup. Humiliating and empowering at the same time.

Any meeting is way better than no meeting. Especially when you absolutely need it.

A close friend’s daughter just went off to 90-day rehab for heroin. Gut wrenching but at least she’s going and has stayed there a week so far.

A guy we used to hire to do some construction work just died of liver failure. Probably always was a heavy drinker but took to full time day drinking and caput. Always jarring. Vibes to all who struggle.

Almost monthly I call the Support Line in Tokyo. I call them to say Thank you for answering the phone. The Support Line in Tokyo isn't so much alcohol related as much as a general support line but in 2019 I was standing on roof tops. I now often call to say Thank You because I never, ever, want to lose gratitude for other people being there for me when I needed it.

They are always stoked I called just to say thank you for answering. We don't talk. Don't have to. But I call 6-8 times a year because half the time a robot answers. And that's heart-breaking. So when a human answers, I thank them. They're volunteers, and I thank them for being there.

For some of us the struggle never ends. We just get stronger. And gratitude is part of the game.

So... reach out, people. Even if you don't think you have to. The people at the other end of the line are waiting to hear from you.

Good on her, hope she has a grasp after reading some of your earlier posts. I too am not sure what DAA is- Drugs AA?

Drug Addicts Anonymous. Same as the 12 Step AA program, but with more of a focus on drugs, but with alcohol counseling too.

I just got finished with an ex gf who went off the deep end. Never seen anything like it. Jail, dui, hospital, searching at night for her, picking her up off the curb, someone’s front lawn, intervention, rehab, then AA. Her sister od’ 5 yrs ago.

I don’t want to disparage anyone in AA, she needs it, but they were giving her pills, guys hitting on her and taking her home, pushing me out of the support circle, total train wreck.

Changed my life, I will never drink myself again. Nor smoke. I feel for anyome with that gene.

That is so cool, man it's been a long time since I skied with you. Anyway I went sober a couple of years ago, an incursion here and there I admit. I didn't do it because I thought I had a problem, I did it because my athletic performance and recovery were going down the toilet. So I guess that means I had a problem, haha.

Its easy to deny youre an alcoholic when you say things like “well i go to work” and “im not physically dependent” to it.

I took 4 months off last year to save the marriage, and when it was evident that it was irreconcilable I quickly discovered why they all say you have to want to do it for yourself.

Technically this is my first day without alcohol for a long time.

Its easy to deny youre an alcoholic when you say things like “well i go to work” and “im not physically dependent” to it.

I took 4 months off last year to save the marriage, and when it was evident that it was irreconcilable I quickly discovered why they all say you have to want to do it for yourself.

Technically this is my first day without alcohol for a long time.

An oldtimer might say something like this to a newcomer at his first meeting and it usually rings true. Simple, to the point. "You made it through today. How about you come see us again tomorrow?......there is a meeting at XYZ place at 5:00pm. Go to it."

Shutting off my own thinking and just taking some god damn suggestions is what saved my life. My own best thinking got me into AA in the first place. I was fortunate to realize I needed to stop listing to the stupid decisions I came up with and take suggestions from some of the guys who had been sober for a bit. "Hey, so on Saturday a couple of us are taking a meeting to whatever town and you are coming with." I just always said yes. Getting dragged around to some speaking commitments and being signed up to make coffee is the kinda shit that literally saved me from myself for the first few years.

I feel really fortunate that I got sober in a pretty smart town with some high powered type people and intellects etc (Princeton, NJ). Did we have dudes who were essentially sleeping next to the train tracks in some of the meetings? Sure. We also had Ivy League professors, Wall Street CEOs, brain surgeons, etc etc. Many of whom didn't lose their careers......yet. You don't have to roll your car 5 times and kill the passengers in order to come into AA. You can come into the rooms before that. The only requirement is a desire to stop drinking. Period.

According to the story that was read yesterday I am a moderate drinker, can take it/leave it etc , so this isnt a big deal to me yet.

Ive told the gf and she will hold me to it, as I enjoy sitting on a chairlift with her.
