    Wax in skin glue

I've got a touring partner who's having trouble with his skins not sticking to his board. And he's getting wax in his skin glue.

Anyone ever heard of this skins pulling wax off the board?

I want to tell the guy to get wrecked

And if he wants me to fix it he's going to need to pay again as this is not an issue with the quality of work I did

Well I appreciate the permission I'm still gonna fix them, I might just when I drop them off let the guy know he should probably scrape his board really really really well before he uses the skins

IME one tube of goldlabel does a pair of skins well enough, i assume you did heat the new glue in with a medium hot iron using baking parchment, that looks pretty good from this side of the screen ?

at this point you could reheat the glue for buddy and see how that goes

seriously the end loser is suposed to iron in the wax and then scrape/brush EVER speck of it off so there should not be any wax TO pull off

I thot about it but can't see making any money regluing skins for folks ... just hassles and tolulene fumes

Yeah idk I've hauled in about 600 bucks including the cost of supplies doing reglus for people since Thanksgiving

This is the only customer I have asking for more glue

wow i wonder what is the cost ratio $ to dead braincell ?

I fix drysuits so i know all about them missing brain cells that tolulene has liberated from my cranium and IMO skin reglueing is worse, the owner has since instaled a fume hood over the work bench which is bascily a high end cooking range hood, vented outside

might be a good thing to repurpose a junker hood pulled out of a kitchen remodeling job ?

Yes, it means he's not scraping and/or brushing enough (and possibly using too cold an iron). Wax should be "in" the base, not "on" it . . .

That's what I figured, and this I'm guessing would cause attachment problems from the go eh?

If the skin is sticking to wax that simply flakes off, I would say yes.

Sounds like an opportunity to sell him on a phantom treatment.

Or just tell him to scrape and brush his ski better.

Looks like split board skins. While generally more in tune with their gear than your standard sideways slider, many snowboarders are more skeptical about certain aspect of the tune/wax process then your standard skier. I have seen pretty accomplished snowboarders who do nothing more than crayon on wax in the parking lot.

Well, plenty of long time backcountry skiers never tune their gear; are amazed when you explain why there are white "hairs" sticking out of their base . . .

I've seen more than a few people wax and not bother to scrape or brush, so they just let the piste scrub off excess wax

Given the amount of time I spend walking on trees and rocks of hitting sharks at speed I've given up on caring for bases or edges completely. I don't even fix core shots unless they're massive these days. Half of the time the fixes come off when I pull my skins anyway. I get frustrated once in a while when I'm oozing my way down something really low angle but otherwise it's been working out pretty well.
I used to race and ski prep was everything. Now the thought of taking a huge chunk of my thumb off when the fucking file slips off the edge of the ski I'm sharpening is a distant memory.

OP, as others have pointed out your buddy is being an idiot. Wax, scrape, brush, apply skins, be happy. Any changes to these steps will murder the skins.
