Carhartt sizing/quality control went to shit a while back. I have large flannel shirts that are a little too small, and a medium sweatshirt that's huge. I've had instances where two pairs of same size & model pants were easily a size apart.

I have two pairs of Dickies overalls that are a size apart that fit me the same, the smaller size of the second pair I can't get into.

    Try to keep this short:

Mom took a fall and fractured her pelvis. In and out of the ER three times over 5 days until we could finally get her admitted to the hospital. During this time she was prescribed Oxycodone which ended up getting refilled and delivered by a local pharmacy to her apartment at the retirement community where she lives. Since she was in the hospital it was left at the front desk. She didn't need it so I didn't go get it right away. I think it sat there in the pharmacy bag for 4 days. Went today to get it. Get home with it, open the stapled shut bag and pull out an empty bottle. Someone had stolen the pills! Upon examination of the bag it does show signs of having been opened and re-stapled.

Called the pharmacy and they say "no way. we triple check." Called and left a message for the admin at the retirement community but have not heard back. I'm really kinda pissed and freaked out.

Q: Should I call the police and report it?

KQ, it doesn’t seem like this is a thing you can just let go. I searched on “eastern Washington patient advocacy” and saw a couple hits for gov’t organizations that might be able to help or at least get you headed in the right direction. Might be better than just going straight to the police, but that’s an option too.

    Good luck with your mom.

Gak! I just don't need this right now.

Absolutely report to the management of the community, but I would report to the police too. We have massive lawsuits nationwide about opioids, this is a big problem that should not just slide.

Yeah.... i know it's bad. My mother will be moving into the assisted side when she gets out of rehab and I'm a bit concerned that she will be cared for by a drug addict. Ugh. Really don't need this right now. The last week and half has been a nightmare trying to get her care.

ADD: What makes is worse is I don't know who to trust. Could have been the Admin. She and I discussed that my Mom was on them which I didn't like.

Could have been the PT who was also aware.

    Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

At the police station now reporting it.

Riding home today, I saw someone who I presume to be a landscaper using a pressure washer to blow leaves around. Is this a thing?

KQ--If you haven't done it already I wouldn't talk to the nursing home about it. They'll likely get defensive and deny it, given the seriousness of the crime. Let the cops deal with it.

Yes 100% call police. We had similar incident with the kids meds that are controlled. a) it’ll help with refill, b) puts the shady assholes on the police radar.

The trust in caregivers gets shuttered.

Sorry about your troubles. Positive vibes…

    This ^^^

+++vibes+++ KQ for You and your Mom -

    it's not helpful, but
I believe this was likely a staffer that is ,,, scamming med.s
( If a pharmacy bag sits on a counter for more than 24hours, it is a temptation.

    Controlled med.s like Oxy. Should be secured ( Locked. as a matter of policy and written practice ;
I believe you need to notify the Admin. /
they need to implement a corrective practice.

    Law enforcement will be interested
( stealing med.s endangers lives - And it gets law enforcement attention )

Good luck with your Mom !
oversee her care as best you can
    ( a pelvic fracture is worrisome! )

    Good luck, KQ
( do you have help with animal chores (?) )

Vibes KQ. I don't have any suggestions that haven't already been said I do know what it's like to have to trust people with care for an elderly loved one. It sucks. My dad wasn't an easy patient on top of that.

You’re doing the right thing KQ, the police need to be notified as theft of a scheduled narcotic is (in most jurisdictions thanks to the epidemic) a felony. The administrator of the home needs to be alerted too as they have to report these incidents to the state board of health/pharmaceutical board. Video is all over managed care and needs to be preserved before it’s automatically taped over and lost.

This may seem like a lot but there’s a reason why they’re controlled substances. Any misappropriation can jam up any refill/re-script your mom may need and not be able to get, you don’t want opiate seekers in positions of care for your mom or other elderlies and the administrator can get in serious trouble for keeping a drug seeker on staff if they were made aware of the problem.

Best of luck and sorry you have to deal with this. Opiates have fucked our nation up.

I did tell the admin who was aghast. She in turn reported it to her higher up and they put in new protocols for the independant living residents. They already have strict guideline for the assisted residents. Accepting prescription delivers for the independent side was just a courtesy thing. I feel bad about this but honestly if you think about it, it's a good thing that it happened so they can ferret out the bad actor.

Police report has been filed. I turned over the obviously tampered with bag and bottle. They will notify the Dept. of Health who will audit the facility. Again, I feel bad but this is a a big deal not just for my Mom but all the residents there.

Ha-ha-ha! Yeah I have been waiting for someone I've reported this to to question if I'd taken them but 1. Why would I report it if I'd taken them? 2. I have another bottle of them that she never finished because she ended up getting admitted to the hospital (this was a refill called in by her primary care without speaking to me or her about whether she needed it or not) and 3. Pills are not my thing esp. Oxy - hate that shit.

Thanks everyone for the support. It's been a long couple of weeks (see TR in the aging parents thread)

You don't want people like that in charge of caring for the elderly. It's a problem as outlined in this recent study:

PURDUE NURSING RESEARCHERS ANALYZE MEDICATION THEFT IN LONG-TERM CARE FACILITIES

My mom wasn't in a long term care facility but there is an assisted and memory care side.
