I've got a big long more or less horizontal crack, like nearly 2 feet, in my windshield. It's been a shitshow getting it fixed and I have to drive ~500 miles in a few days. Do I just do it or do I rent a car?

That’s interesting. Clearly you don’t live in New Mexico. Unless a crack like that spiderwebs, no one here seems to get their windshield replaced until they get a second or third crack, if then. I’m pretty sure not even the cops do. I assume you’re concerned about getting cited.

But they don’t have mandatory vehicle inspections here either, other than cursory smog checks in Albuquerque.

With cost of aligning the cameras on Suby Eyesight and I assume other cars windshield replacement is a major repair. Driving a lot on I80 in the Sierra I get a lot of cracks; I'm more worried about State Farm canceling my car insurance than my homeowners. OTOH as pitted as my windshield gets, a big crack is a relief--now I can get SF to pay most of the cost of being able to see well enough to drive at night.

The crack is likely on the outside. There’s a plastic layer between that and the inside glass.
The plastic inter layer is plenty strong. As is the urethane adhesive around the edges.

You’ll be fine. Two foot cracks are a way of life out west.

It's Ice. Don't be so sure. The world has been trying pretty hard for a while now and so far Ice is on top.

I presume this is the Audi and not the work truck, therefore needing lane assist etc. Because it probably wouldn't be a shit show to get one done in the truck. Yet another point for old tech.

I wouldn't stress and pay an extra grand to get it done before the trip. But I'd get it done shortly after for a fair price. Mainly for the small amount of extra impact protection.

I have a good windshield shop to refer in Denver if anyone needs help and there's also a mag that does windshields in Summit CO.

replacing a windshield isn’t a moron proof job, and the job only pays for morons right now, which means it might well be a shitshow

SLC knee ortho recommend please? I hoped this whatever it is would get better but it’s not and it hurts on the daily just walking anymore.
Eric Heiden is practicing in PC/SLC. He actually had both his own knees done a couple of years ago. I would try to see him for sure if I was looking for an ortho

He did my meniscus repair a decade ago. And cleaned out a large amount of scar tissue.

Provided all these guys are talking Select Health insurance, I’ll probably see Davis and Heiden.
Heiden did a surgery on my wife’s ankle years ago.

I’ve had three surgeries on my left knee and I’m not wanting to go under the knife again but this hurts on the daily doing anything anymore including just standing at concerts. Thinking about snowboarding right now makes me cringe in pain thinking about how it felt last year on the few days I was able to get out.

Does anyone have a great recipe for making hard cider from home grown apples? I used to homebrew for years and I have most everything I might need. Looking for cool ideas for secondary ferments or helpful tips or whatever else.

I'll take the Denver referral - seems I'm regularly replacing windshields on the fleet 'round here...

PM Skiingbear. His wife (Skiguide here) co-owns Scion Cider downtown and they brew their own onsite.
Tell them I sent you their way.
