Somebody, in some thread, mentioned a good but kinda expensive meat thermometer with a probe, the kind you just leave in the meat while it's in the oven. After yet another cheapo version died at crunch time yesterday I want a better one. Anybody have a good memory or a recommendation?

I haven’t used these but I’ve seen them in a handful of kitchens lately. Look cool.

I'll check out the Maverick ones thanks. I'm fine with the wired probe type, the one that was posted was like $50, the Polder ones I've had up 'til now cost like $15 and work fine, until they don't.

That Meater one is overkill for my use but thanks SM.

Thermoworks, the maker of the Thermapen, makes some. I only own a Thermapen but if I do but a probe, it will be one of theirs.

I think that was me asking, after realizing we couldn’t find our meat thermometer about 3/4 of the way through roasting the turkey on Thanksgiving.
I still haven’t picked up a good one yet though, so thanks for the reminder to add one to the cart

I like Meater - you can get them for about $80 on a sale. It's worth a little bit of extra dough, IMO. They have a bunch of different meats/cooks you can set up, and you can choose rare, medium rare, etc and it will use the USDA recommended temps. It also has a "Meater Cloud" feature that doesn't cost anything extra. If you leave the charging station near wherever you're cooking, it'll update your cook status to their servers via Wifi, and your phone/tablet can report your cook in real time.

Question for the law talking guys/gals:

someone in here awhile back posted a quote or saying about lawsuits and time - something about how time weakens a lawsuit - it seemed like it was a common colloquial saying that lawyers might use - or perhaps I’m imagining this

Bought a Thermoworks on your recco (and amazingribs.com's too). They make a range of them, I bought the cheapest one, it was $45 but will do all I need.

They say "time kills deals" in sales, something like that?

Yeah, property rights must be defended. The longer you allow a trespass (like squatting, or an errant fence) the harder it is to win a litigation.

    Same goes for copyright.

A useless/dangerous coworker threatened to sue myself and other colleagues a few years ago. He doesn’t have a winning case but has enough to at least pursue it which would be a pain in the ass and expensive - but also enjoyable to watch him squirm as he sees what records we kept. So far it’s just been a few threats via letters from his lawyer. Statute runs out on his case in 2024. His case was weak when he left - in my opinion it only gets weaker with time. Pretty sure someone posted a turn of phrase that summed that fact up in a catchy manner. But again I could be imagining it.

Back to the hard seltzers and meat probes..

A little while ago I noticed streaks below the towel rack in my bathroom. Probably been there for ages, but once you've noticed it now you see it every time you're in there. I've tried wiping the wall down with a cloth, made very little difference. So this is probably something like hard water stains. Any one been able to get these off a wall? I can't just use a scouring pad like I would in the shower. Window cleaner? Vinegar?

Caveat, that magic is a really fine abrasive material (generic is "melamine" if you want to save $$).

Would likely work wonders with these stains though.

I get similar water stains. I use clorox wipes to clean walls and they work great. Never had any issues but do a test patch.

Cool, I have clorox wipes. (and now that I think of it, alcohol wipes too). I'll try those and if not, the magic melamine. Thanks!

I think it’s probably condensation on your walls that then rolls down
