Can vouch for shapeways.com. They kept me from buying a printer for at least 8 years.
Yeah, I prototype in PLA and then use Shapeways to print in nylon or stainless steel. It's not cheap, but if you're talking about parts that will leave you stranded if they break, it's worth it. I printed a heel post for a tech binding in steel and it's holding up fine.
I supose YMMV but ime the tail clips & leashes made from SS ( G3/ Dynafit pomoca/ BD) have never broken and they all worked pretty well SO would it be cheaper/easier to just buy them as opposed to reinventing the wheel ?

Original concept was to replace the horrible clips that shipped on k2 skins, i just adjusted the dimensions so it could work on other brands. So i see this as more of a: im in a pinch and have or know someone who has a printer type of thing.
