AFD maxed out on Marker bindings

Hi all, just picked up some Tecnica Zero G 130s and was going through my quiver this morning adjusting bindings. Maxed out the AFD on two sets of skis that have Markers, one Baron and one Griffon and the boot is still coming into significant contact with the AFD plate. Any recs?

That's the older model Griffon toe so it's not compatible with an AT soled boot. That toe/AFD was designed for alpine soled boots and the height adjustment in the AFD was to adjust for boot sole wear etc and won't go anywhere near low enough to fit your boot. Your need the Griffon ID for use with alpine, GW, AT and the now defunct WTR soles.

However your Baron should adjust fine as they, along with the Duke, were designed for any sole profile from the get go.

That generation (pre-Sole ID) of Marker bindings is not certified to work with a touring sole, so you're SOL. I wouldn't trust my knees to that setup.

Copy that, good thing I don't really ski in-bounds any more. Thanks for the info.

Could also get the Lord SP for cheap, since it lost its luster when the ID models were released. Nice thing is the ID version of the Royal bindings will drop into the same holes.

    Barons should have enough adjustment.

Could be wrong but looks like you have older griffons which I don’t think are compatible with touring soles. You’d need newer griffon ID’s.

    No idea on Barons.

All of these people are right, non-ID Markers are not ISO 9523 compatible. You can, however, buy new ones and screw them into the same holes. Not sure about the Baron, it is supposed to be 9523 compatible.

I've got the same problem described here except that my bindings ARE the ID version. Scott Cosmos III boots and Griffon ID 13 bindings (2019-20 BNIB). Mounted to a board for a hole test, I adjusted the AFD all the way forward (AT sole position) and there is still compression on the boot sole rubber. Tried the Marker paper test and there's no way it will slide out without ripping.

Common problem? Should I cut to the boot sole rubber thinner? Should I cut the binding AFD slide to eek out a little more distance? Should I find a different binding?

^ I'd grind or sand down the center lugs where they touch the AFD until the side lugs also touch, so you get more boot sole against the AFD for better edging. With it center high like that, you'll get some play going edge to edge.

Thanks, that seems like a good start, and an issue I hadn't identified.

Here's a tip on how to cut down the rubber. I'll try to report back with my own results.
