There is no way to enforce. Having lived through some month long curfews, I can tell you without the fear of being shot, it ain’t going to happen here. No matter who is in charge.

We’ve got people going to football games, traveling, shit the worst Trump hater I know just went to Serbia for a quick getaway. Pure Hypocrisy. At least with the election behind us people might finally stop playing games with the corona ball.

He has a point. A new place near me just opened, purely designed in response to Covid, takeout and drive through Mexican and burger shack. And they are killing it. It was 90 minute wait.

You are right if you are talking about individual citizens. But trying to enforce that would be silly. And nobody is going to enforce 99% of private gatherings, BUT you could enforce giant house parties.

Restaurants were told x% capacity and were like "fuck that 100% capacity let's go and we won't worry about no masks and people bellying up to the bars at 11PM." Well... house parties and stupid practices with late night drinking and high capacity...

As far as ski areas, they will become a problem when COVID overwhelms the hospitals so that they cannot handle the trauma cases ski areas naturally create.

The MIT-Alta collaboration found no way to make indoor restaurants safe. Ski lifts yes. Liftlines yes. Emergency pre-interlodge bus out of the canyon yes, barely. If restaurants stay open, the hospitals are gonna fill. If people do something else equally dangerous b/c restaurants are closed, the hospitals are gonna fill. Will that close the lifts? Hard to say.

The spread in Steamboat that caused our recent shutdown is proven to be from the halloween party that parents hosted for the high schoolers. Over 70 staff and students infected and over 300 quarantined. The other spreaders were construction companies, the retirement community of Casey's Pond, lodging companies, lodging maintenance companies, housekeeping staff, and one single restaurant with a terrible business model of you pay market price to grill your own steak. That restaurant had already been closed by the time the state turned our dial to red. We went all summer and fall with no spread via restaurants, they all did their part. It's the spoiled breeder locals and their kids at fault here, plus the lodging companies. End of story.

The point is moot now given the restaurants are closed again regardless to indoor dining and the damage is already done. Locals are still spreading it now, for sure giving it to tourists in our 2 small grocery stores and god only knows how many will be hosting their families here for Thanksgiving. We're good and fucked with community spread and I bet the resort will be closed before New Years, if we are even able to open.

That's how it's going down in Steamboat.

Earlier this week this young twenties something girl parked next to me at Safeway. She got out of her car and dutifully donned her TRUMP mask.

You sure you didn't just see a young 20s girl get out of a car with NH plates and make up the TRUMP mask part to make the story postworthy?

Some dick Texan bought the house behind us a couple of years ago and turned it into an Airbnb. That house has been filled to capacity with Texans (maybe others, but they're really all fucking Texans) since Covid started. Pre-covid they maybe had a renter every 2-3 weeks for a couple of nights.

It is packed again right now and I had to go over there two nights ago and tell the 9 dipshits to put out the fire pit they had roaring in the middle of a fire ban and the same day we had two new wildfires break out, one within 2 miles away.

The Texan's are definitely in town right now.

It actually shocked me, because it was the first one I've ever seen in person. I wouldn't have noticed her otherwise. I walked around to specifically look at the plates. I was assuming TX.

The resorts are definitely trying to keep the actual on mountain experience somewhat safe. Obviously compliance isn't 100 percent and we are definitely spiking here right now. I personally don't think we will get to New Years before Gov Polis shuts it down. I don't think we wants to do it, but once the hospitals reach capacity I don't think he will have a choice.

I hope I am wrong, but we are vigorously preparing for it and trying to get as prepared as possible for the loss of visitors, which means a 50 percent or so decline in business.

Still seems pretty normal (for 2020) around here as far as bars/restaurants being open and bustling. Indoor dining/drinking doesn't seem to be capacity-limited in a meaningful way.
