Which VPN are you using and why?
How has the experience been? Easy to use?
What does it cost?
NordVPN seems like a popular option.

I still dig Private internet access.
You have use of a proxy (torrent clients), and they have great speeds. I keep my plex/sonaar server always connected to some EUR location.
The Opera browser has a free VPN built in which I occasionally use to access Netflix's European offerings -- they have a different selection of movies than in the US. I read that Opera is now owned by a Chinese company though, so maybe not what you want to use if you're looking for privacy.
I've used Express VPN to access Gmail in China and to stream the CBC Winter Olympics coverage. It's easy to use; I can't comment on the security/privacy considerations because I didn't look into it too closely, but I was not arrested while in China, so it must be doing something.

Express VPN here to stream IPTV and use while traveling. I think its easy to use and the privacy issues with them are good imho since they don't have/store things in the USA.
Yeah I have PIA too and it's been fine. Pretty cheap if you do a year or 2 year plan.
Only one time it crashed and left me exposed. Cable co shits me down for my kid dling kardashians shit. I played dumb, they immediately restored service, said I had 3 strikes type deal, so now it sends me an email if the service isn't running but I set that up. I think it's still rated at the top of the heap but I haven't checked in a while as I am pleased with pia.

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
Pretty sure that's per computer but maybe they have a group/family dealio? dunno
What are you trying to secure or bypass?
General preclusion of being tracked online. Tentacle porn, cake farts, etc.
The FBI.
google doesn't like when I use it, I get messages about "unusual traffic" and have to do captchas pretty frequently
If you haven't already done so, you should watch The Social Dilemma on Netflix.

Why don't you go practice fallin' down? I'll be there in a minute.
What the hell are you guys talking about? I use a vpn to access my secure work email and software when at home...but I don’t really know what it is.
Explain it to me like I’m an old person.

A VPN tunnel is a secure tunnel from one place to another, and the traffic is encrypted to keep things safe or contained. For your workplace, they want to keep corporate information contained, and also manage your computer.
Regarding the OP, they want to keep their browsing safe from anyone who wants to see what they’re doing. With a VPN, you can connect to a server in another country to bypass location-based address tracking. So you can watch Netflix or YouTube videos from another country if you’d like.
In terms an old guy can understand VPN is a Virtual Private Network- It is the computer equal to "keep off the lawn for network traffic"... Virtual as in it is not a internal private network, private as in more secure and requiring a login and usually some sort of software to encrypt the data packets on each end, and of course you hopefully know what a network is whether computer or otherwise...
But there are a few different ways VPN's can be done or set up. The ones the above are talking about is a more secure way of reaching web sites from a computer- by connecting first to a secured method or server on the Internet, either because you do not want someone to see (like your ISP or whomever) that you are visiting that site (more than just history and the like in a browser) or you want to make it look like you are in a different location- nice for say trying to watch content or view sites that are locked to a particular region or country (go to China and the government will not allow many sites as an example, or if you are traveling and want to reach say a local TV show that would be available only when streaming from the local area serviced). The VPN is a work around as well as increased security so that regular data passing through the connection is not recognized.
The VPN you speak about for your use at work is a slightly different in that it is set up so only the company network and resources again can be reached while outside of work (WFH or traveling or even other regional or branch offices) It is sometimes pointing only to a single corporate location or in an essence just the resources that your company allows you to be able to reach outside of the actual physical office.
You don't need a VPN unless you are accessing unencrypted data that is highly confidential (aka your company's server).
For everyone else*, it is a waste of money and complicates your setup.
*unless you are trying to Netflix from a country where you cannot get stuff you want.
Puregravity gets ads for steel eating squirrel repellent with no VPN.
