I can highly recommend the fine upstate beef stew at Stewart’s #455

Well it looks like the party is over. DMV figured out that they forgot to collect the sales tax when I bought the van. Oh well.

Gonna do another long loop Monday and Tuesday, up through the Fingerlakes with stops in Dundee and Penn Yan then on to Buffalo eventually. Next day breakfast in downtown Buffalo and down through E'ville with a stop to meet the new GM at Kissing Bridge. Then the long 8 hour slog home with a much needed stop in Salamanca for cheap gas and cheap weed.

Anyone along the way have anything fun going on Monday that'll make me want to stop working and get out of the car for a while?

So I heard a comment that Peek N Peak is going to put in a RV camping area on the old lower golf course that they closed a number of years back. I do not know if it will be seasonal camping or year round and open for winter time also...

    The Anchor Bar is overrated.

I went through another new to me zone today. Draw a pretty straight line from Penn Yan to I390, dead, empty and really pretty with some great looking vineyards that need to be visited.

I like donuts where is that?
So I think I havve decided that traveling around The Upstates on Mondays and Tuesdays kind of sucks. Almost all of the breweries and distilleries are closed other than a few big corporate type places and in general it seems like nobody wants to open their businesses on Mondays anymore. It is amazing how many types of businesses were closed on Memorial Day, even breweries and outdoorsy kind of stuff that families used to do, lakefront/riverside restaurants were closed and there was no activity of note in any of the small towns I went through (and I went through a lot of them). I figured a parade or two or something civic minded but, nope. There was one car show that looked pretty solid and from what I could see there were some pretty cool cars but it was $10 to park, so I didn't. It made for a long, quiet ride when what I expected was a long ride with stuff to look at other than invasive plants overtaking the earth. Even the veterans memorial in Buffalo was empty, I was the only one there https://photos.app.goo.gl/EWQCqqP6PLnWjFX76
I think I have said it before but, damn Rt 17/I86 is a very pretty road. The stretch from Liberty to Kirkwood really is a great piece of highway (where it is not falling apart and pothole ridden). The only thing that would make it better is if, like the Taconic, there were no trucks (and fewer cops). That said, a sunrise ride up the Taconic is one of those classic drives that if you have not done yet, you should. Sunset rides going south are damn near as good.

Upstates behavior? Hikers tripping on boomers mistakenly report their friend’s death. https://unofficialnetworks.com/2025/...friends-death/

I'm enjoying myself imagining the conversation between the Ranger and the tripping hikers as they were guided back to the trailhead.

I think it was the Schenectady paper that posted on their Facebook page this morning that they haven't had a dry weekend since November. I have only had 1 this year, in March. Fuk this shit.

Syracuse hasn’t had a rain/snow free weekend since last November. This was the first year I didn’t play golf in December in a long time

I've been keeping up on the weather in my old home town. It has sucked. Left coast humor I heard. What do you call two days of rain in a row in Seattle? The weekend. Should be a good summer for mosquitos.
