^ I wouldn't doubt it. Only lived there for 8 years but lotsa drunk college students and several "squares" around town that are centered on bars.

Add in the SAD-factor due to the weather and more than a few soldiers from Fort Drum spending weekends tryna get laid and it seems plausible.

So, my son mentioned at dinner last night that there’s going to be a solar eclipse next year that’s going to track over “all of upstate”. I asked him, “Where is upstate?” He almost threw his fork at me.

syracuse? pfft… marshall square is a ghost of is former glory and chuck’s is dead. however, even in its glory days it couldn’t hold a candle to the daily raw drunken fuckshow that was potsdam ny during the ‘70s and ‘80s. even better were the actual beer blasts where shit was really off the fuckin’ hook…

On November 9, 1985 the last "old style" (where the host provided the beer) beer blasts was held at Tau Epsilon Phi with over 4,500 people attending, two bands and 250 kegs.”

How are they going to watch the eclipse when they haven't seen the sun in months?

    Fork throwing, lol.

I always am impressed by the staying power of Ohio University on the top-10 party school lists. It's been on there since as long as I can remember and they really lean into it. Many fond Halloween weekend memories (I think) there.

Haha - early April is not an ideal time for eclipse viewing.
Either way, we're rolling the dice and heading to Burlington to chase totality.

Smart money is being on the shores of Lake Erie in Cleveland for the eclipse.

I can promise you that no other place on the planet will give you totality with a side of 8-12" of thundersnow

In other news, Al Dimeola will not be visiting the upstate in November. (non-lethal heart attack)

Not sure Potsdam qualifies as a metro area but I've been drunk there in the very early 80s when we swam against them in college.

Neither thing #2 or thing #3 would go to Clarkson because it is in Potsdam, that is, the middle of the ass-crack of nowhere. It would have been a good school for both of them. Their HS has a strong relationship with Clarkson.

She probably remembers how they drowned their sorrows last time.

The last time the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2) and Buffalo Bills (3-1) faced each other in 2021, it was a touchdown-less matchup where the Jaguars won 9-6 in Jacksonville. The game was a battle of the Josh Allens as the Jaguars defender had a sack and interception of the Bills quarterback, who threw two total picks.

What helps the Bills win on Sunday?

Years and years ago wifey and I were visiting her college friends in Chicago and we got invited to a Sunday brunch/foot ball watching party at one of their places. Not being a loser, I went down that morning to the corner stop and rob to buy some beer to bring along. I'm trying to get the cooler doors open and the counter guy says, "you're not from around here are ya?". Fucking blue laws.

From what I hear, it actually makes it worse as everyone stocks up on cases of beer in the back stairway to keep from getting caught short on Sundays.

I kept meaning to say that. Seems like he's alright, oughta be a few months, at best, before he's back at it.

In 1959 my dad asked his parents to take him up there to see Clarkson. It was a 2 day trip, in each direction, from where they lived in Belle Harbor. He said the first day wasn't so bad but the second day as they drove through never never land he was already pretty sure he wasn't going to that school.

I have have neigbor who's kid is going to St. Lawrence. The sky's always gray and that stretch of road between Watertown and Lac Champlain is as desolate as you'll ever find east of the Mississippi. I think the college hockey scene is ok tho, if you're into that.

Well aside from throwing stones at Canada I suppose you have to find something to do to entertain all those kids.
