Reminds me of a joke we used to say any time we went to play lacrosse at WVU…

What do they do on Halloween in West Virginia?

Not so sure I totally agree with this list but it makes Upstate look pretty good.
Well yeah, but the impressive student to teacher ratio doesn't dispell said student's desire to GTFO of the southern tier!

Good education ≠ desire to stay

Are we talking "teachers" or "hot teachers?" Cause that's ... ya know ... important and would probably wipe out the whole category from those towns, including the southern tier.

    NYBOD:
    Lieutenant Dan

Forrest Gump: So what are you doing in upstate New York, Lieutenant Dan?

Lieutenant Daniel Taylor: I am living off the government tit! Sucking it dry!

I fucking love anything that references Lt. Dan for some reason. Mostly because it makes me laugh and a bunch of good has come out of that role. They filmed Forrest Gump in Lowcountry, specifically Beaufort where I find myself from time to time, and Sinese has made a point to give back to the area a ton especially with Parris Is. nearby, I'll have to try that beer someday.

I still call it The Jake.

Oops, I almost forgot to cross post.

UC on sale at adk fest.

The fest was upstate. Myriad missing teeth made me wonder if the toothbrush was invented in upstate, not WV.. At least one "we the people" hat with an army/ militia style small backpack at a jam band festival. Little kids up near the stages with no ear protection. More marijuana fashion wear than I've ever seen. A few bands commented on how the crowd was asleep. This ain't New Orleans folks.

For the most part, it was a very conscientious crowd. A super fun time was had by all with great music.

I am lost in buffalo after going to Niagara falls and ended up with a beef on weck sandwich. It was tasty.
Is that an upstate thing? Wings were pretty tasty too...

It's a Buffalo thing, but not an Upstate thing.

I disagree, it has migrated almost all the way to the leatherstocking region.

Beef on Wick with enough horseradish to bring tears has been an Upstate ROC fav for as long as I can remember. Not 100 years but close.

    This.

Best seller in the 'cuse when I lived there in the early aughts. Even Coleman's on Tipp Hill sold them.

I hope you got that from Charlie the Butcher but I don't think any of their locations use real plates...

As a ROC native, I'd be hard pressed to tell you where to get a good beef on weck in this town. Not saying you're wrong Cisco, just that it's not a ROC thing like garbage plates, white hots and Abbotts custard.

You can get great wings, BoW, salt potatoes and plates from a few places in Denver too; that doesn't make it a thing
It's a Buffalo speciality. We didn't seek them out in ROC, but I'm sure there are some good spots out there.
BoW is a pretty easy dish to make at home. Don't skimp on the kosher salt + caraway!
