That's weird, I just read an article earlier and they dedicated a whole paragraph to Stephentown. I like the farm stands on the west side of Rt 22that always has great berries.

So, more weird shit on my Upstate border suburban dead end tonight. We're eating dinner and I hear a lawnmower getting louder outside. I look out and there's an old man riding an old lawnmower holding a big handwritten sign with a tall skinny black kid about 40 years younger walking a few paces behind him staring into houses as they go. I didn't think to get a camera out but since it's a dead end I figured he'd be back, I was right. Click image for larger version.

ID:	467938 The sign says " To the ButtHead that scared my wife now it's my turn! I'm gonna find out!!!" And then he signed it with his actual name Turns out he's a former town board member who's lost most of his marbles that lives a block away at the end of the dead end below me, the house is right under a high power transmission line. So this dipshit is out there yelling at people to come outside and listen to him and when he gets in front of my house, of course, his lawnmower broke down. It took him a half hour to wobble and hobble home to get a pickup and cumalong to drag the thing into the bed, which took another half hour. All this time the street was blocked so people had to drive over my lawn to get by. I called the police and they said 'yeah we know, he's a little nuts so if you can just have a little patience it really will be the easiest thing...'

So I'm about a mile south of Rt 6. The Upstate border is creeping further south. PROOF.
    Fact.

You’re making a strong case for your upstate adjacent status, GL.

    Good work, Aldo.

Yeah there's quite a list of stuff between the couple of dead ends on this hill that have made for good entertainment over the years.

Why can't the cops have that attitude with all the folks with mental health issues that they shoot instead?

On a lighter note, I drove the length of the state, north to south yesterday. We were moving my son into a new apartment at college which led to me doing a little shopping at a Walmart which was very close to the Canadian border. It was as expected. The only Thruway news of note is that most of the new res5 stops are opening up so Chick Fil A fever is in full swing.

Shake Shack and CFA in the same rest stop?

That's nicer than most airport's offerings.

No matter how nice the rebuilds and the brands, it's the upkeep and maintenance that matters for these rest stops.

Even after the last round of rebuilds it only took 12-18 months for the restrooms (men's) to reek of stale urine no matter what time of the day or night.

The buildout of those rest stops is also super upstate. Swear to god it's been a 5-year project. All I can think of when I drive past one that's closed is how the Chinese woulda put it up over lunch.

Begs the question of upstate men's pee aiming abilities as much as anything.

I thought CFA was an odd choice as they're closed Sun. But I guess the other six days it should be hopping.

Maybe some Gorilla Glue on that porch railing GL?

CFA is all over Mercedes-Benz stadium, and they paid a ton to be there, and while the Stadium is open for a ton of other dates, most people made the connection that they won't be open on NFL Sundays when the primary tenant is there playing.

CFA, the city, the Falcons and the fans didn't give two shits. They just bought more on Monday.

There’s plaza out there somewhere that only has a bank, chickfilla and a hobby lobby…

When I lived in AZ 35 years ago fast food spots in the PHX metro would go from bare desert to open in a week. Now it takes a month or more to renovate a MickeyD's.

True story...the Albany Airport had one of the first Chick-Fil-A's in the upstates. I used to be in charge of security there (and all 15 other upstate commercial airports). People actually petitioned to be allowed through the security checkpoint so they could eat there. I was honestly ok with it (although it would have totally effed-up the lines) but the important people in DC thought I was insane. No creative thought out of the swamp (not a Trump reference, DC was actually built over a swamp).

They also said no when I asked to let the screeners play Call of Duty for training. There were several studies from real universities that said such games made their image recognition skills way better. I did it anyway. Bought the gaming consoles out my own pocket. When we consistently beat the Red Teams, they asked what our secret was...my answer was "Lucky, I guess".

I left that job before the Chick-Fil-A actually opened. Best career move ever....

During peak covid my dad lost a scarf he has worn for 30 years at the newish rest stop just north of the Hudson on his way up to Montreal. he was pissed and disappointed but i said i would call the highway dept to find out about lost and found on 87. Eventually after a couple of phone calls I got connected to whoever runs the maintenance stuff in the North Country. It was a Friday afternoon and he was already out of the door, but came back to answer one last call.

He told me to have a nice weekend, he would leave a message for the weekend crew to look out for it and get back to me. For a month like clockwork he checked in with me to say they hadn't had any luck. At this point Dad was out of the two week lockdown and barely sulking (lol). But, every time he called I told him he went above and beyond, and not to worry about it at this point... but that I appreciated it.

2 things, this guy's attitude, diligence, and professionalism changed my dad's "GOVERNMENT IS THE PROBLEM" attitude about a bunch of jerks sitting around to collect a pension by i'm gonna say... 26%.

The last thing is that he goes home two and a half months later and the fucking thing is on his bed.

I really owe that guy a pizza or something though and I can't even remember where his office is.

My son discovered that Chic Fil A in the airport one night when we were in town for some reason and punched it into google maps. As I was following the directions I was like, “huh, seems like it’s out near the airport? That’s weird, would have thought Wolf road.” When I figured it out and broke the news to them, my boys were sorely disappointed.

It’s actually the dill pickle brine they put the chicken in that I think is so addictive.

    And the iced tea.

Sorry folks. Parks closed, Moose out front should’ve told ya.
