    Good suggestions
I’m curious about the Ghent and Gilboa options, or maybe I’ll just go to the museum in Albany. Haven’t been there in a few decades. Ausable and Katerskill would both be good but I’ve already done them a few times each. Maybe the walkway over the Hudson

Is that one in Ghent the one with the big sculptures above the Taconic? I thought that's in Hudson.

You know what? I think I mistook it for Pratts Rock. Now that I look, Ghent is on the wrong side of the river. Pratt’s Rock is in contention though

Sure. I guess the possibilities are endless. Just trying to break up the drive though. Nothing big

Unless the map is upside down this is the right side of the river It's just the way it is.

I need to find that Paradox.

Getting loaded up for another cross-state loop, gotta go to the kid's grad school graduation. The plan today for the ride west is lunch on the water with the dogs in Watkins Glen, then stop at Barrelhouse 6 Distillery for a bottle of Bourbon Cream, maybe a winery stop along one of the lakes after I make a work stop and then head west for the last hour or two into a very smoky sunset.

About that smoke - It's horrible here, grey and dingy with muted sunlight, it's as bad as during any of the really bad fire seasons the last few years and it's only May

Weather showed that the Western Canada forest fires Alberta, etc. are causing the smoke and the winds are carrying it over across Canada and into mostly New York and states North of NY.

As I see you already know based on the Forest Fires thread...

    Brownski-

Kinda neat historical spot off Exit 17: https://sgfny.com/coopers-cave/

Great beer drinking patio nearby: https://commonrootsbrewing.com/ (you'd want to do this before the cave to avoid backtracking).

Or there's this gruesome historical gem between exit 20 and 21: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/bloody-pond

And hopefully you already know about this place off exit 23: https://oscarsadksmokehouse.com/

Once I load up on jerky from Oscar's, I always like to check in on this Warrensburg gem when I'm visiting too. Not sure how much is going on there these days, but it's where I learned to ski so maybe just nostalgic for me: https://skihickory.com/

Also a childhood friend has this spot off exit 24: https://www.thehubadk.com/

Good recommendations there. About 2/3 of the way there, right off the Northway and probably not too time consuming. All I am looking for is a chance to stretch my legs a little. Re. Bloody Pond, I’m familiar with that place. Harriman/Bear Mountain SP has an equivalent body of water called Hessian Lake- which I think is a sanitized version of a more colorful former name.

I was going to go to Dundee, I have a customer on the way there from Watkins Glen. Unfortunately I/we moved a little slower this morning than I'd hoped. I used to make it up here about an hour faster in that old Range Rover

Even if we’re not sure where Upstate NY is, can we confirm how many states are north of New York?

We finally broke through to clear air about 30 miles SW of Rochester. The wind now is out of the NE so it should get better.

A small part of NH and ME of course. VT, MA, and maybe part of CT and RI are east of Up State NY...

We had dinner at a (horrible) restaurant on the Canal last night and the wife and kid were complaining about the smell. Then other kid said they just filled the canal a few days ago so I looked. Sure enough it was filled with things that probably did smell. Good thing I can't smell anything.

North of NY? Not much, some of Maine and a wee bit of NH. Other than that you need to go west to the UP.
