The Official Argue About Where Upstate NY Is Thread

Godspeed my man, I sure don’t miss it.
When I did my stint in the south the heavy red clay & lack of irrigation made it an "always-losing battle" for turf grass. Threw money down the drain on Tifway seed... Azaleas, ferns and monkey grass were indigenous so we transitioned to that (as we got wiser).

Upstates though, it's easy peasy with glorious black dirt. No KB ($$$$) but I'm building turf with TTTF overseeding & a scottish nitrogen-only feeding plan (= no dandelions). Not much else chemical wise, just manual labor.

Honestly think I'm spending the same time on 2 acres that I was on 1/3 acres in NC. I also like being outside, in the shed:

The water was supposed to be in the 30s so I held my hands under for a minute. It was extremely cold- like Peekamoose Blue Hole cold. As I paddled, and I felt a little bit of wind, it was cold on my hand that was down near the water but felt warm on the one up in the air. Weird and cool at the same time.

that thing just pulled off a 16 hour round-trip, upstate ta Saddleback spring time cornsnow road trip with a detour to the sugarbush on the way back running real sweet… shiftin’ n driftin’ like a dream on them twisting new england roads. without a doubt, some of the best mileage i’ve gotten in quite a awhile.

as I was filling up on some cheap vermont gas before I crossed that new england border back into teh upstates… i got to thinkin’ to myself how ‘ol DW used to say, a race car never runs better than just before she blows…

and of course, the next morning. she does just that.

she could’ve let loose at anytime, mind you… but after a spirited 298,000 mile run, instead of going out during an epic eastern springtime corn run, she held on, i believe, to specifically crap out on my way to the annual day long management/worker safety/operational meeting.

A meeting that, as I was informed of later, did not include donuts with the coffee.

it knew the true meaning of 献身…. one could really not ask anything more of an engine.

    fact.

Fuck, I hated going back to West Point after any time away from there. Still gives me the shivers. Went back for a football game once when we lived in B-ville (a neighbor's son was attending) and I kept looking over my shoulder wondering when some asshole was going to start yelling at me.

After leaving that place for good, I was assigned near Nashville. Took my son (he was 2.5) to one of the first Chick Fil-A's outside of Nashville and DW was in line in front of us. Real nice guy and apparently a regular because he knew all the people at that restaurant.
