Isn't BB drop compared to front/rear axle? Never seen that before.

I just ordered a 28t chainring for my Ripmo. Very emasculating telling the shop owner what I wanted, but at least it's not an eeb...

Mixed wheel size, so front/rear axle heights are different.

It makes sense to be riding in the middle of the cassette. Who cares what size chainring you run.

Got my shock back from a rebuild, though I'm not sure if I should post in this thread or the rant thread.

I dropped it off 4 weeks ago and it was supposed to be done in 10 days. On day 9 they call me saying that they have been having trouble getting a good bleed and it will be a few more days. Whatever, I wasn't planning on picking it up for another two weeks when I would be near the shop for work.

Fast forward two weeks. I go to pick it up and they tell me it's not ready, there's a "clunk" they can't get out. Ignoring the fact that they've had it two extra weeks now, it was due for service but working fine when I dropped it off. They tell me they can have it done in two days when I'd be in the area again.

I get a text the night before saying it's ready to go. I show up at the shop, pay, they go back to get it, then the next thing I know my shock is back in the stand, one tech is telling the other very non-confidently, "I'm not sure how it works. I put it back together the way it came apart." Soon they're disassembling the air can, looking confused, fiddling with shit, and finally I get told it won't hold air and they'll need it another day.

It's supposedly "all good" now, but it's hard to feel confident in that assessment. Hardly the service I was expecting from a well-regarded specialty suspension shop.

Ha, yep... pretty sure I said that a few times over the years.

I am indeed running Specialized for our demos this year. There were a few factors that went into the decision, but the main one was that I'm looking for more than a basic transactional relationship with our demo partner. Meaning, I want to work with a bigger company that has the resources to help us grow and expand, and one where we can potentially help them with customer/dealer/media-focused events and launches. I unfortunately wasn't making any progress with the smaller companies I worked with in the past, so I had to change direction.

I've already got the full fleet of demo bikes, and damn they make nice bikes. Plus, I've had nothing but good experiences so far working with them; it helps they have an Experience Center ten minutes from my house, plus a handful of full-time employees based here in Boulder that have been super helpful getting things dialed over the last few weeks.

    That sounds sick.
We basically fell into the SpecEd camp because of the Experience Center in Boulder. Absolutely perfect experience for confirming a bike purchase.

This is smart on the business side.
And the experience center is hugely helpful. I'm interested to see what happens after Specialized moves into the former PI HQ in a few months. My assumption is that the experience center moves as well? The Business Center in the PI building will be perfect for that.

Not that it's an excuse or anything, but I would guess they don't work on very many of those

I used to have great experiences with them, but lately super slow responses, and hearing the same from others. Seems like they grew too fast becoming the main EXT dealer, then split off the EXT guys into a separate company, and are both swamped now.

It's enough that I'm considering just selling my Storia off my old bike rather than put it on my Nomad and get a revalve. I figure I can get a new Super Deluxe Coil Ultimate for more or less what I could sell the Storia for (before revalve), and I've got a competent shock service guy a few blocks from my house. Or worst case, other RS suspension service techs are easy to find.

That's how the big brands are now. Specialized wants shops to go all in on specialized. Trek does the same (even moreso). Giant too, to a lesser extent. I think all those brands make a lot of money on their house branded products. Tubes, soft goods, bags, bottles, tools, etc.

The better the shop is, the more they're able to push back against that.

yeah shop bro has multiple locations so he books a lot of product, stocks exotic/ high end so I think he can pretty much do whatever he wants and so he hasn't built a shop for any of the 3 brands you mentioned

Yeah, Mara Pro. There's nothing that different about them, Manitou has excellent service support, and these are supposedly pros.

Finally replaced a 3000 mile old GX 50 eagle derailleur that had been a little floppy the last few hundred miles. And since I was 3 for 3 on rainy/muddy Enduro races last year I decided to install a BikeYoke Shifty device on the new GX Lunar der I've been hoarding. Shifty supposed to allow gear cable to glide with less friction than plastic part, especially when grimy. If you have experienced shitty shifting in the muck, this is potential culprit.

PITA to drill out the riveted part, ended up using a tiny bit lodged into front side and attached to drill as a vice. Exacto knife on other end to shave rivet. Eventually worked.

Also discovered that my Copper XX1 chain had a punched-in plate that was causing the chain to bind. Replaced it with a semi-worn black xx1 chain.

I also hate setting up new derailleurs. Feels like no matter how good I get it shifting in the stand I lose the chain off the big cog on the trail. Kinda need that 50t on my Madonna.

Stoked to enjoy cleaner shifts, sketched out not having a backup derailleur. Will prolly remedy that soon once the new SRAM direct mount comes out and "legacy" derailleurs become obsolete.

As far as I can tell trek hasn't been too pushy so far but also I'm not the person who talks to the rep every week either. EP program is good, although some of the branded stuff i've tried so far is kind of meh.

Anyway I've been riding on those recalled whisky handlebars for awhile now and still haven't gotten a replacement so i just went and bought a different set.

Easton ec90ax. seems nice, but haven't ridden them yet because it's actually wintery around here again. Pretty similar to what I had- slightly more flare at 16deg vs 12,, slightly more reach at 80mm vs 68, stuck with 42cm width. Riding the cx bike around on the road i've felt like it's a little short and upright (and really is compared to the road bike) and so swapped on a lower stem, and these longer reach bars should help too.
