First ride with that giant 52 cassette yesterday. So nice to go from 30x42 1x11 to a 32x52, I can actually ride up hills again!
the one and only ride since i got it last friday where i took some jarring hits on decents and now lower back has been shot. might need to add a fork already.....can't think of anything else i did to put the pain in my back.
Here we go again...

There's a way to look that up instead of just guessing or whatever

All the 11s cassettes still listed as compatible with all the 11s shifters/derailleurs including new m5100 and they still fit on a 10s freehub.
Just bought a Camelbak Chase Vest. Loving it thus far. My hip pack always drove me crazy.
All you folks with 30+ tooth chainrings wanting lower gears - why not just downsize the chainring? Anti-squat worries? Need that 30x10 top end?
First thing I did when I got a 1x bike (with 10-42 cassette) was to swap out the 32 tooth chainring for a 26. I occasionally spin out the 26x10 but mostly just on the road where I don't really care how fast I'm going.
HG has 11t as the smallest. 96bcd chainring smallest is 30t. If you don’t have XD hub or direct mount chainring, it’s a little limiting, thus the large climbing cassettes.
Speaking of which, anybody have an 11-46t 11s HG cassette laying around? Doing some 50+ mile backcountry rides with 10k climbing and want a bailout gear.
Check out the gearing on the Deore 11-51 -- it's available online for $65-70ish if you look around. I'm pretty sure I'm going to grab one. I bet it weighs a decent chunk more than, say, an XT 11-46 -- but I think the cog spacing is much better.

I’m on a five year old 27.5 trail bike with 32t and 11sp 11-46 and climb a lot. I wouldn’t mind a touch easier granny gear but I’d far rather gain more top end at this point. I’m spinning out on flat single track and bike paths. I can’t imagine a 28t or 26t in those situations.
