I'm not in it for the platform. My old ass knees need the Crank Brothers float, and you can pick those guys up for about $30.

First ride with that giant 52 cassette yesterday. So nice to go from 30x42 1x11 to a 32x52, I can actually ride up hills again!

Thanks. I'm not likely to swap to 12-spd Shimano on this bike (not sure if it's possible to get a micro spline freehub for the Race Face Trace hub), but a wider range 11-spd for cheap sounds good.

I didn't read your post correctely. I'm not sure the new Shim 11sp option uses standard 11sp spacing. Since it's an option for the new 12sp, I think it uses the same 12 sp spacing, you just lock out the uppermost limit screw.

All you folks with 30+ tooth chainrings wanting lower gears - why not just downsize the chainring? Anti-squat worries? Need that 30x10 top end?

First thing I did when I got a 1x bike (with 10-42 cassette) was to swap out the 32 tooth chainring for a 26. I occasionally spin out the 26x10 but mostly just on the road where I don't really care how fast I'm going.

HG has 11t as the smallest. 96bcd chainring smallest is 30t. If you don’t have XD hub or direct mount chainring, it’s a little limiting, thus the large climbing cassettes.

Speaking of which, anybody have an 11-46t 11s HG cassette laying around? Doing some 50+ mile backcountry rides with 10k climbing and want a bailout gear.

Check out the gearing on the Deore 11-51 -- it's available online for $65-70ish if you look around. I'm pretty sure I'm going to grab one. I bet it weighs a decent chunk more than, say, an XT 11-46 -- but I think the cog spacing is much better.

That's a huge difference in gearing for where you are. a 46 in the back on the 1x11 with a 30, unless you're super burley or a single speeder by nature is a must.

Yeah, I don’t want to also buy an SGS (long cage) derailleur. My SLX mid-cage won’t shift that big sucker and if I were spending that much more, I’d just go full SLX-12.

Exactly. First ride out I was over 12,000' three different times. And finished on a slightly downhill road where I normally would have spun out. I'm a fan.

The last climb up to the top of 401 will always be a granny gear bar for me to judge my ratios and my fitness.

I do notice in the chart that the m5100 and 4100 rear derailleurs are listed in both the 10s and 11s charts so that's kind of handy. Which kind of implies that maybe other shimano 10/11 mtb stuff can interchange?

I’m on a five year old 27.5 trail bike with 32t and 11sp 11-46 and climb a lot. I wouldn’t mind a touch easier granny gear but I’d far rather gain more top end at this point. I’m spinning out on flat single track and bike paths. I can’t imagine a 28t or 26t in those situations.
