Official ATK Binding Thread

Not sure if this is common knowledge or has been shared before, but I got this straight from ATK customer service. There's an English and Italian table, they seem to differ slightly in models listed, so I'll include both.

Also, something that I just found out -- again, not sure if this is common knowledge.

The Freeraider 15 EVO comes with ATK's AL14 toe shim in the box. The charts I just posted show what the delta would be for the EVO series without the toe shim.

It's only the Evo 15 that includes the toe shim (and freeride spacer), for the other Evo models they have to purchased separately.

I don't know if i missed this, but (1) can the Evo brakes be removed (left off) to ski with leashes, and (2) if so, will the risers flip over to work with the pins forward?

The evo brakes can be removed, but it leaves open the little aluminum brake latch. My guess is that these aren't designed to be run without brakes.

I just bought raider evo 13s. These are my first tech binding. How do I go about selecting release values for these? I don't see anything in the instructions. For alpine bindings I usually just run 9.5 and go up from there if I have a prerelease.

RVs are pretty much similar to a DIN setting. I see variability even within the ATK line, although this may be the inconsistency of using my leg as a torque meter ;-). I set all my bindings on the carpet and adjust as necessary if I get a pre-release on the hill, although i prefer to not fly out of my skis ;-)

I'll try to run a new touring ski inbounds for at least a few runs if possible - to dial in both the tune as well as release value.

Atk told me that the rv is the same as din as they use a certified machine to test (words to that effect); I can’t locate the message they sent me for accuracy.

Considering the vagaries of the tech system (wearing fittings, grit, etc), that's more than accurate enough.

Thanks, I was hoping that if @Spyderjon had some inventory to clear out that I could "help" hem with.

I just ordered from Snowcountry.

Earlier today, I checked with the various Euro sellers, they all end up around the same price, but Snowcountry had the best selection in brake widths. By the time PayPal took their cut for the currency conversion (expected), and adding about $35 for shipping, it came in at a touch over $500. Hey! At this rate, they should outlast me, and buying next year, I'll be stuck with the new, "improved" Evos at in-season pricing ;-)

Does anyone know the right Binding Freedom screws for these?
The BF website doesn't have them listed, but does have BD Helio 200/180/145/110 as a single group and all showing...
8 QTY 12mm flat heads with heads reduced to 9mm
8 QTY 10mm flat heads with heads reduced to 8mm
I'm guessing the first set is the toes. But clearly the heel screws must be different since say the 180 (ie, trofeo plus) has a baseplate and the 145 does not.

Of course, direct measurement is best. I've seen some of their recommendations being off (Look heels).

Also, a good substitute for the ground down heel screws are socket heads.

Any opinions on the toe release feature on the evo's? Maybe i missed it in here? Im impressed with the smooth operation on both my kuhlars and raiders. Heels turn ez, heel risers are simple with little snaps and magnets, toes are ez in ez out. Has me curious how well the new releaseable evo toes are.

Alpinlord is working on some layout templates over here. Anyone with data to add should chime in.

Just noticed this thread. Feedback would be great. After adding ‘tech pin’ locators, I realized you can screw the toes directly to the layout tools.

Edit: therefore a simpler version is in the works that takes far less time to print.

Yeah I tested the toe rv in whiteout skiing into an unidentified snow object at reasonable speed lol. It released as I’d expect my alpine binding to do. Really liking the evo15. So easy to use. Best step in tech that I’ve owned

Very cool! Thanks. Thats a good test. That couldve been ugly. I released from my regular raiders once in a forward twisting fall when i got caught up in some bushes. I cant remember the last time ive had a binding release in an alpine or tech binding. The last time in alpine probably a few years ago and 20+ years on tech bindings maybe 2-3 times i had a heel release. The toe released after the heel on my raiders as it would in a forward twister on an alpine binding. It seemed appropriate and smooth. I set my release values at 9.5 in tech bindings which is 1 less than my alpine bindings for the slower speeds usually in tech. I guess its quite possible the evo is even more consistent. It'd be nice to throw an evo in a vice and try and do a manual toe release

The ATK Bindings, Part 2: Product Lineup & Design Differences (Ep.200) podcast with ATK CEO (and one of ATK’s chief product testers) Davide Indulti, was very interesting and informative.

Regarding the Evo Freeride Spacer, one of the comments stated: "I can tell you from experience the freeride spacer makes a massive difference. It is night and day. I put them on my Ion LT and I won’t ski without it."

Is this to say he used the ATK spacer with the G3 ION? If so, how would it be mounted?
