We did Packard- mapleton/sawmill to kirkman alt; then hung a left on the left fork of days canyon last year.

I thought it was awesome, especially the left fork of days going from kirkman out to the road. Some nice open meadow, than endless rock gardens and fun tech in and out of a flowing creek. To echo what Dan said though, we did it soon after it had dried out in the spring and the moto dust on Kirkman and the ridge was sporting and fun, but not miserble. I cannot imagine how bad it gets as the season goes on. Days canyon was mostly rock on the descent and wasn't too bad, but spring seems to be the best time. Overall highly recommend the area though for a change of pace and cool trails.

Looking to do some adventure riding in the next couple weeks since the weather and conditions have been excellent, wanted to ask for some beta on a couple spots:

Santaquin Peak, looks like bikes are allowed and the terrain isn't too rugged, anyone ridden it?

Right fork Hobble Creek, looking at Kirkman Hollow, Sawmill Hollow and Dry Canyon, anyone been there in the last year or two?

I'll also share some beta from recent exploring:

The north ridge of Butterfield Peak is stunningly beautiful and genuinely good riding for most of it, with some annoying loose parts. I took my ebike up Butterfield Peaks road but I would imagine riding up the trails west of the peak would make for a good loop as well. I intend to try that later this fall.

Logan Canyon/Spring Hollow/Syncline North/Dry Canyon loop - I was told by a friend in Logan that this is one of their best loops, and I was up there for an errand and rode it after. I would say this is definitely not worth making a special trip from SLC but a great option if you are in the area. Fun tech climbing with HAB sections, and Dry canyon descent was fun. I was really looking forward to Syncline North which had almost 5 stars on Trailforks but felt like the trail was tedious and not that fun, even in hero dirt. Its a Moto trail so its eroded, and its got constant ups and downs with difficult accelerations and no flow.

North Ogden Divide to Willard Peak out and back. Didn't have much expectations but this is a world-class ride and probably the most scenic bike trail in the Wasatch. The riding itself is fine, some eroded parts since its a popular Moto trail (saw 20+ Moto riders and no other cyclists on our outing), but the views are stunning and the riding on the most scenic parts is generally quite good which makes the annoying parts very much worth it. I would like to come back with more time for a full loop going up Perry Canyon to Grizzly Peak, south along the Skyline and back on the BST. I'd also like to ride the Eden Epic someday which includes these trails. Never really thought of the Ogden area as a riding destination but its phenomenal. Scrambled up Willard Peak and would love to come back and ski the east couloir, and ideally link it up with the south face of Ben Lomond. Very cool terrain up there.

So gentleman, I’ve been a bit intrigued by Cherry Creek but never been on it. Do y’all think it would make a decent descent? Even doable?

I've run it many times and never been tempted to ride it. It averages 20% grade, going up would be >95% HAB. It's certainly rideable going down, but it's mostly just steep and not very technical with a lot of tight switchbacks and awkward hiking trail moves. Maybe if there was a better way to get to the top, but IMO not worth pushing your bike for 2+ hrs.

Colors in Park City are going off!

New Seldom Seen trail is “officially” open. Definitely a Mtn Trails creation but better than cyn city. Also after volunteering with them a few times, totally get why they build the trails the way they do.

Rode it twice this weekend, way better than dealing with hiking traffic on spiro, lots of fun bits, the corner reinforcing material is wierd and feels grabby, overall a great addition that’s going to blown the fuck out come next august.

Colors are still poppin and the dirt on the pirate trails is so good.

Why?

They’re a small team with endless projects and limited resources. Volunteer days have been mostly poorly attended so they’re always short on man power. Machine built flow trails are easier to build with limited hands and are supposedly easier to maintain. Finally they’re building trails for “everybody” and not just the core riders since most of their donations don’t come from the bros.

I’m sure that they would love to build trails differently but as a trails organization, they service a wide spectrum of users.

This is just my opinion based on being around them on the few days I’ve volunteered so take it all with a large grain of salt.

Still… Seldom Seen and Changed Reaction are fun additions and make for some high to low laps.

Thanks beaterdit for the ride that day. I got back for another and then one down to Mill D. The Spine feature was really neat. Honeycomb is a really fun one too.

BCC is incredible! I can't wait to get back in the spring and continue on the Solitude Park build. That place is going to be silly!

I’ve been trying to explore more around the valley since going up to PC is such a zoo these days, at least as a curmudgeon. Rode Mueller Park for the first time this morning, it’s definitely going in the rotation and it wasn’t just the charm of of the changing leaves. The downhill was great for getting more comfortable on a newish-to-me bike. I could definitely push my old bike hard enough for it to start losing composure but for this one, my lack of balls is definitely the limiting factor.

Forgive the distortion making the rear triangle look freakishly long. I should know better than to frame shit like that with the 0.6x zoom but I just keep doing it.

Both of those trails were built to be rideable for adaptive riders. That changes some things. I find it inspiring when I run into the groups riding those things on trails. We have soo much trail. Having a few wide enough for those is not a big deal. And cyn city is a favorite when I’m with younger kids. Heck, even my 14 year old will ask to fit it in if we’re in that area on the hard tails.
They’re building for a much broader demographic than the TGR enduro bros.

I had to share the chair with some "bro's" that think the trail building world should revolve around them and their "superior radness" while doing hot laps at DV this past summer and fuck they ware me out really quickly.

That being said I found there's way more awesome people to ride and hang with than the annoying "bro's" around the Wasatch luckily. There's a really fun scene developing at Solitude and apres bike park at the Squirrel is top notch!

What a summer and hopefully we'll get a few more weeks of this fall weather! Conditions have been epic all season long....Kudos to the other crews out there putting in work, with all the new development PCMR IMO has the best lift served trail network in the Wasatch...and will continue to get better. If you know you know.

Like the winter, I feel like every mtb day this summer has been a new best day ever. Yesterday included. Riding the steep shit with crazy colors all around was like a video game. No time to stop for riding pictures, but I grabbed a quick one up top. I don’t remember the last time all the aspens changed at the same time, but the sea of yellow is pretty incredible.

Rode the new Regulator trail on lower DV tonight and its pretty sic. Not officially open but far as i can tell its all finished and people are definitely riding it. Good sized jumps would put them closer to Tsunami /black diamond size. probably 15 or 20 jumps total didnt count tho.

Yeah! We rode it on Sunday and thought it was great. Tied into Undertow after a little while. Does Regulator continue to the bottom? Or do they intend for people to connect to NCS or Undertow?

Theres a section below that...once you get on Undertow for a couple seconds you have to peel off to your left onto the service road below you...Regulator continues to the bottom off that service road

Last one of the season? The gear has apparently had it, ripped a nice hole in the rear tire and broke my pump while fixing it. Oh well, it's been a good one, time to go skiing!

Of course, my friend shaved a knob on the next section that was leaking but a few good spins sealed it right up, no plug needed.

What's everyone's opinion of the trails that are still closed 3 years later? The dude I rode with on wednesday said he's been riding them this fall, we watched some trail runners running on them as we were hanging out on the top of the aves twin peak. Kinda feel like they are open game, the trails are cut, they've been there for 3 years and there's really no enforcement up there... And doesn't seem like there's been any movement since they closed em. Plus SLC govt closing them down before they officially opened after being completely built because some NIMBYs got mad is BS imo. I've been trying to respect the closure but now that I've seen and heard of people using them, I kinda have FOMO.

Kinda feel like they are open game, the trails are cut, they've been there for 3 years and there's really no enforcement up there... And doesn't seem like there's been any movement since they closed em. Plus SLC govt closing them down before they officially opened after being completely built because some NIMBYs got mad is BS imo. I've been trying to respect the closure but now that I've seen and heard of people using them, I kinda have FOMO.

I don’t live there anymore so have zero skin in the game, but as someone involved in getting the ball rolling on that trails plan, and considering that the vast majority of trails in the SLC foothill zone other than Shoreline are/were “social” trails, as well as my strong disdain for NIMBYs, I’d say ride ‘em.

I ride the one that goes up to Terror with impunity. It's not actually finished so you still have to HAB up the last pitch of the Terror Ridge trail. Way more pleasant climbing to me though, and then you only have to do Olympic Hill once to get back over to Bobsled instead of twice. The HAB is sixes to the other one. Steeper but shorter.

What are these other finished but closed trails you're referring to?

Bobsled was still running good yesterday, just a bit slick in spots. Some of the run-ins to the jumps were a tiny bit soft but an extra pedal stroke here and there and you were good. Gonna miss it but yeah I guess it's ski season.
