    Salomon Mtn binding question

I have about 30 days in my MTN bindings.
    With expert u springs.
Initially, they were really hard to click the heel in. I really had to stomp hard.
Now, they are pretty easy to get in.
I noticed some wear on the u springs.

Is this something i should be concerned?

I doubt it. Just because they are easier to get in to doesn't mean they'll release prematurely. The wear tends to be on the top side of the pins; you normally push the toe lever to get out of the binding so the bottom surface get less abrasion. Mine are the same, really difficult to stomp in to initially, now no problem.

Ah ... so MTNs break IN, and other tech bindings break?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'd actually be all over these bindings (and SSL 2.0s) if I could fine adjust the release setting.

It you want some new Expert springs, and still have the mens springs that came in the box, I would be be keen to do a swap, should make your bindings like new.

It's well known that wear on the heel plates and springs will reduce release values over time and anyone telling you otherwise is full of it.

That said, its kind of like that by design, it saves weight to have the mechanism for clipping be a bent piece of metal. Its a cheap part and should be replaceable. I would also check the heel plates for wear.

I could be full of it, but I normally run my alpine DIN at 12 and I haven't had any issue with prerelease on MTN's with worn Expert springs. If it bothers you, I'd suggest replacing them with new ones every couple years or so, some people I know do. As IanCH says, condition of the heel plate is also critical and most people never check them.

I checked again and there's very minimal wear on the pins and the plates in the boots. More like shiny areas on both.

I only had one release when i hit some dirt at speed.!!!

It's just easier to get in.

Does anyone know what the release value of the expert spring is at stock? probably pretty important. If it starts at 15 and wears down from there you are in a different situation than if it starts at 12 or 11.

Also, actually releasing out of the bindings will wear the parts down more quickly than stepping in... food for thought.

Inspecting gear with your eyes wont tell you much in this realm, need to hit the parts with calipers.

I'm in France for a year, so it's difficult, because the men spring is in California.

    I'll wait
