Proper # Bikes = N + 1
N = number of bikes you currently own
Seems about right to me. I always want a new bike, regardless of what I have. Don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy w/ the bikes I have, but I definitely could use more.

i agree. I would like to add a hardtail to my present quiver, but i won't, seems like overkill.
for me it's N - x + 2
x - current piece of shit that I use for xc
yes, I know this is the same as your formula bags...
I like it! My plus 1 is a big squish bike to go with the roadie and the xc full sus rig.
Being grown-up sucks!
Can't argue with mathematics, it's universal.
is this scientific fact that i can present to my wife as irrefutable proof that i need a bigger travel bike?
More fucked up than a cricket in a hubcap
Yes this is a great scientific fact, you should use this to your advantage.Originally Posted by Crinkle

Mmmmm, I sense a moral failing on my part because at the moment I am oddly content with my tiny two-wheeled quiver. (You call that a quiver?!!) So I guess I'd argue that in certain circumstances:Originally Posted by bagtagley

I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones.
That's a whole different formula.Originally Posted by Monique

Stable != Quiver
Thus:
Proper Quiver size = N +1(z)
N = number of skis you currently own
z = that backcountry setup I've been thinking about

How did you come up with N + just 1? I know sometimes I may want like 5 new, totally different bikes. Although can never afford any of those.
I think that equation works fine for skis too.
And how do I add the gear or custom parts that I would need to go with my new ride into this equation? Would that be:
Proper # Bikes = N + 1 +(G + P)
N = number of bikes you currently own
G = gear needed to go with this bike
P = custom parts needed to make the bike yours
But what about us broke asses. What equation would we use? Or are we just SOL, with no equation because N is not a constant number. It either goes up or down depending on different variables.
