What Wax to buy, simple all-round one please?

Looking for a wax to buy in the USA, I am Scottish and only ever bought Butta Pro wax before( http://www.butta.co.uk/snow-products.html ). I love the simplicity of the stuff and it works perfect except the coldest days last season(-27*C).

I am a ski about 40 days a season and currently have Banff in two days and then Japow booked for January. so need a good all round wax.

What one does everyone recommend?

Better cold when warm, then warm when cold.
So just buy red, and use it at all times.

Because the colors of light travel at different speeds, they get bent by different amounts and come out all spread out instead of mixed up. Violet travels the slowest so it is on the bottom and red travels the fastest so is on the top.

I use Hertel Super Hot Sauce. I think it works great, but I'm also a wax twice a season kind of guy.

I've been happy with Hertels except when it's really cold then I'll spring for some Swix or similar.

I use the all temp Hertel hot sauce too. You can buy it direct from them, or on Amazon, or ebay.

I like the Swix general all-temp. I tried 'North by swix"- the pink stuff last year, and my bases were dry after 1 day. Swix clear all-temp keeps them glossy for multiple days.

Strangely not.
Something about the alpine air being dry and by the time you get onto the skied-out manmade
stuff, wax or not, makes no difference.

thanks guys, reading in to all of the wax's. The wax has to last me the entire trip at a time. normally a week.

Problem might be the 2 week road trip of Jackson and SLC in March but I can just rub on then plus have two pairs of skis to ride.

It's strange that you can't get the Butta wax in the US or I would have taken more with me.

Ive been happy with Hertal Hot Sauce as well. Don’t like it in spring conditions though and it seems not last quite as long as others. I have used some of the Racing 739 and it seems to last longer and do better in warmer temps.

Hertel Hot Sauce didn’t work as well for me in sub-10 temps. It also doesn’t last very long. I prefer a standard cold wax until it gets to late spring and summer.

Hertels is good but not perfect, news flash, no wax is.

I use various waxes. Hertels, Swix, Dominator and F4 paste.

Then there is the nordic stuff which is a longer list.

There is no "one and done" wax.

I applied DPS Phantom to my touring skis this Fall, and after a dozen days on snow, I’m convinced. Unless you’re waxing to win races, or just love the process, it seems a better way to go.

For those that like to slide a bit faster (I do!) alpine skiing
Swix LF7 is the most set-and-forget performance wax

will you spend an extra $50 per year using it? Yes.
does that matter if you are flying all over the world for ski vacations? Maybe.

But versus any brand’s all-temp, you genenerally use less per application (brick lasts longer), the wax will last longer on the ski, and it glides much faster.

for me, in the Wasatch, it is: LF5 in dec/Jan, LF7 feb/mar, then LF7+Toko DLC in April/May for wet & dirty snow season.

Good wax makes a huge difference

for touring (skins don’t stick as well to flouro wax), DPS phantom is awesome too

Works for me in the PNW - LF8 is my mainstay, sometimes mixed 2/1 or 3/1 with LF7. Definitely outrun my friends using CH, now trying to buy up the last of the 8-chain LF wax before there's no more available . . .

PS I have DPS Phantomed most of the skis I use a lot and continue to wax over it.

You don't say when you are going to these places, but Banff in mid-winter and Japan in January (especially if Hokkaido) you will likely want something colder than most "all-temp" waxes . . .

Phantom is ideal for this, if a bit expensive and a hassle to apply. Any wax you apply will likely be gone in 3-5 days anyway, but the worst it can get with Phantomed bases is still pretty damn good.

This. Hertel works great. And I'm the opposite and wax quite frequently.

Lasted me a full week on Hokkaido without any issues.

If I’m away on a trip, I don’t mind taking my skis in for a wax.
My view is that I don’t pay for something that I can do myself at home, but I’m not at home.
It’s a good chance to talk to locals in a shop and get some insider knowledge. $15-20 for a hot wax and scrape, including some local insight is not too bad.
