That looks awesome, Beakjones! I need to get up to Michigan for some turnin' & burnin' one of these days...

Good day out at the Epic & Classic - Welch Village yesterday. Chilly of course...but since a few of us sat out the Saturday briskness, we were ready to ski Sunday, and ski we did! Hung out with Baconmecrazy, tore up some HARD corduroy, but it was hero cord - grippy with skis that have a little metal in the tops. BRIGHT BLUE SKIES, barely a breeze, about 10F, and despite there being a baker's dozen buses in the lot, the lines weren't bad at all. Couple beers to end the session, and then home to catch the Stupor Bowl at the neighbor's place. Great day.
    Gravity. It's the law.

Have had some great days of late. Chestnut this past Sunday/Monday. The diamonds were icy up high but rest of the place skied really well. Fast, good edges, bluebird days, no complaints. Warpath was an ice hill in the upper part. Like Uglymoney said tons of wipeouts it was comical. Sharpened my skis Sunday morning and that paid off. By Monday it (Warpath) was skiing a little better but still really icy.

Finally got up to the Keweenaw and I'm hooked. Snow was good, not great, the week after I was there would have been better but it was a blast all around. Skied Mont Ripley on the way out and as expected from reading about it over the years it had some really fun and steep runs. Some bowls, the "backcountry" glades and bowl were a hoot. Talk about some lucky residents and especially college kids to have that in their backyard.

Mount Bohemia. Wow, I knew it would be awesome but even then it blew past my expectations. Extreme backcountry section down left of the cliff section (which was closed) and out to the back lift was my favorite. Haunted Valley was too skied out but that is another awesome section. Outer limits and the planets had leftover powder and we ended up taking the shuttle a bunch. Can't wait to get back. Some pics of it all.

At the start of the year I got to the western side of the UP and skied Whitecap during a 26" bomb storm and lake effect event. Some of the best and deepest dry powder I've ever had, anywhere, and I was in Wisconsin LOL. No complaints with the way this season has gone for me in the Midwest. Digging out my car wasn't even that bad with how light the snow was.

For those that "only ski out west" and won't bother going past Wilmot, and I doubt those people view this thread, but you are missing out on some super fun terrain and variety if you're willing to drive a bit. Love skiing in this region. Especially in years where snow out west is subpar and lines are excessive. Carry on.

Nice! Glad you made it up here. Ripley is a special place that gets driven past way more than it should. Looking to hit Bohemia for the first time in a long time this next weekend.
    focus.

A guy at the bar last night said Bohemia has been firing. They’re supposed to get another dump next week which is when I’m planning on going (Wednesday-Friday)

Thanks for the stoke! I am in Chicago and 'round these parts just hit up Wilmot due to it being on Epic pass. But going to Mt Bohemia next week as well!

    This thread definitely delivers.

Where is everyone at those ski areas? Slopes are empty, lift lines are minimal and the lots are full.

When I skied those areas growing up back there, it seemed there were a lot more skiers out on the hill than in the lodges.

Anyone in this thread ski much at Mount LaCrosse?

I haven’t skied there in 15 years, but I know some folks who are regulars. Look for the Professor, a ripping old Teleman…

At least in the pics I sent, much of that was off peak days. I have been staying away from resorts on Saturdays and most Sundays this season.

Bohemia on a Thursday vs a Friday was even like three times more crowded, can't even imagine Saturdays. Ripley on a Saturday was slow when we got there at 9am but busy by lunch.

Chestnut was super bowl Sunday and that Monday. Nowhere near as bad as a normal Sunday or let alone Saturday.

UP resorts like whitecap, Big Powderhorn, they don't get huge crowds like granite peak. Plus with good size it spreads the skiers.

The sun keeps setting further north, a little farther up the bluffs every night. Cold tonight and the south wind came up with a clear radiant sky right at sunset. Really good skiing and about 18 degrees. Temps rise to 32 at 9 am. Then 38 by 10. 49 by 2.

    Should be interesting.
