Damn! Has to be one of the biggest midwest summits in history.

Wish I'd have been able to make it.

It was a fun day! Hardly anyone there and we just endlessly hot lapped it, no lift line ever. Trollhaugen is a cool place. Awesome skiing fast in a big pack.

The girl did all 4 days of the camp and reports great fun was had, not a clusterfuck at all ever, and found a super solid serious USSA type race friend from Marquette to slap gates with Saturday and Sunday. Her dad and I took some laps and of course he knows Yooper, who rarely posts here anymore but is a part of the OG fabric of TGR's midwest contingent.

They only had one run open so I waited till Sunday to ski, with a slightly smaller race group in the house that day.

When I did take those first turns it was with a nice fresh layer of yooper pow and the one run skied great, did enough laps to make my legs sore. Skied with some great folks. Just a great day.

Those old Hall chairlifts haul ass. Love it.

Found another huge dork in the parking lot with the Wisco version of my plate. Our cars twinned for the win and we weren't hypocrites at all, having skied some fresh that day.

Wow. Missed opportunity here. Sent ya a pm but I think our kids had fun with yours Thursday and Friday. Talked about swivel skiing and other stuff—-I think my daughter thought she found a new bestie.

Pm'd yesterday to confirm and didn't see this till today.

Those two definitely lapped chairs together the first couple days while you guys were there.

The midwest mini magget contingent is strong!

Looks like Troll did a nice job of laying down some depth out there. Wild was pretty boney last night, especially with about 5 high school teams trenching one of about 5 runs open. The other main race hill open is thin enough that they have to be drilling dirt to set gates.

By the end of the weekend they're going to be hurting seeing as they'll have the D-team racing starting, a full patrol toboggan refresher, and one of the roving ski schools (Blizzard) bringing out about 600 kids. At least it looks like they'll be able to fire the guns back up on Saturday night.....

Looks like it’s going to be an EPIC day at Afton tomorrow! Sunny and warm. The snow should hold up until at least noon. First chair at 10:00 AM. See you there!!

Hot lapped the front hill at Afton for 4 1/2 hours today. The sun was up and the snow was good. Not many runs were open, but I usually only ski the front hill anyway……Click image for larger version.

I’ve been wandering around the UP the past several days with my lady friend who used to live in Ontonagon. Went to Houghton to ski Mt Ripley, but apparently some of the ski patrol wants to be paid in Bitcoin. Plus the temp was in the 50s and the wind was blowing about one billion mph. So I went to Tractor Supply instead of skiing.

Rented a cabin right on the beach near Silver City because I’m a romantic kind of guy, and my artistic lady friend enjoys collecting driftwood for her projects. Took folding chairs onto the beach around midnight to watch the Geminoid meteor shower and watch the Northern Lights out over Lake Superior. Highly recommended activity.

Continued the exploration of the UP by visiting the Porcupine Mountains and the little ski area. It was 32 degrees, raining, and wind still blowing one billion mph.

If it wasn’t for that wind, I would have been wearing shorts that day in Houghton. I think I have your digits from when we met in Big Sky. Lady friend’s primary care doctor is in Houghton, so she goes there once a year, even though she moved out of the UP quite a few years back. Apparently she likes this Doc enough to make a 150 mile trip every December up there.

It's definitely a yellow wax kind of December. On top of the warm days and not cool enough nights we have the rain predicted down here tomorrow. We really, really need rain, but why now and not in October?

My stepson just stepped off of the train home from CB where conditions have been good. He seems stoked as ever to ski garbage tmmrw. So just have to make the best of it.

At least we have something to ski.

    Christie Mountain delivers the goods.

    Man made snow, check.
    Temp in the 40’s, check.
    Rain and fog, check.

All that said, I had a blast at Christie as usual.

The road to the ski hill was crowded.

Ripley tried to open last weekend, but by the time I got there to pick up my pass on Sunday afternoon it looks like they lost the base under the T-bar and said 'fuck it'.

Mountain biking has been good though....

And with all the rain/snowmelt, waterfalls are cranking like it's spring right now.
