Today at Welch did not disappoint. Rolled into Madd Jaxx lot at 2:00pm after “virtual teaching” and was rewarded with soft 12” piles of fluffy to smash through till quitting time. Best snow of 22/23 season imho

It was great seeing you at the demo. We need to get out this year, even though time is running short.

    2019/2020 Midwest Stoke Thread

14 inches at Christie Mountain plus bluebird sky. They left several runs ungroomed. Cold, -5F at opening, got up to +10F by 2pm. Hardly anyone there.

There was a run called Eagles Ridge that was 50/50 groomed one half and pristine untracked on the other side. A group of 4 snowboarders were stopped at the top of the untracked powder vaping and talking. I came in hot on the groomer and cut in right below them, leaving a cloud of cold smoke right in their face. You snooze, you lose, punks ! [emoji867][emoji41][emoji867]

Yeah - I looked for you out and about, but decided to head up to the bar for a beer (or two) and then back to the fortress. You should come over to the Welch pond skip - I think it's on 3/18 or something like that? Maybe we can lure Harry in that day too!

I’ve never met Harry, or seen him ski, but I’m fairly confident I can pick his tracks out.

Looks rad. Glad you all got a good storm to pass through.

    Official Announcement

BBI-MIDWEST * will be held at the Welch pond skim on 3/18.

Welch’s website says date for Pond Skim are “TBD”, so you Welch regulars need to keep us updated.

    * name pending approval, I sent a text to the Executive Committee asking for their blessing.

Text received from the Executive Committee of the Bobby Baker Invitational (BBI) franchise.

The Committee vote was unanimous. We are approved to call it an official BBI. [emoji91]🤙

I saw you headed down on the Dan's side when I was on the lift. Only made a few laps.

Fuck, you know I would. Saving my money for the airplane skis, too.

Unfortunately, "Daubby" is still in a few big pieces. Flying back to Oregon in March for a week to work on it. Adding Lamborghini doors.

i went to a skiplane fly-in down near Aitkin, MN a few weeks ago, this one was my favorite:

Bohemia Friday. Got there a day late but the morning rocked. By afternoon the crowds descended and beat the place to hell. Icy base, lots of exposed rocks and stumps. Never seen it so thin this late.

Bailed on skiing bohemia Saturday and headed to the porkies. Had a BLAST there. One lift and a rope tow. Snow was soft and deep in the trees. Great family place with a positive vibe. A handful of parking lot campers and lots of tailgating. Stoked on this place!

New to the upper MW...where are the Porkies?

Edit: googled. Whoah! Right on the south shore directly across the lake from me. Seems a bit of a hoof from...anywhere.

Looks like I'll miss MBbbi23, coming home from CB that weekend. Great idea, I am dying to get back to Welch sometime.

Hope to see Mikey1299 at the LaCrosse Open this weekend. That should be fun. Last time I skied LaCrosse was when I was still a student at ISU, crashed our friends girlfriends dorm at Winona State University. Had our car towed from a U parking lot. Junkshow.

Stepson is on a jet to Eaglecrest AK right now for the IFSA level 2 comp, hoping to score some points. He had lucked into an entry yesterday at CB but it was canceled due to too much pow.

Daughter continues to struggle to make the slalom breakthrough she wanted this year, but had two good GS times at Tyrol basin, for 1st and 2nd place finishes on Saturday.

Ha, was out there Saturday as well, but primarily lurking on the backside. Backside picked up several more inches than the front. Haven't seen it that deep back there for a long time.

Really neat place. No frills down to earth place with some legit skiing. Good place to introduce the kids into back pack camping too. Was supposed to skip work and head up there with my dad last Friday until my geo went out Thursday and had to get it up and running before starting the drive to Steamboat Saturday am. Only pic I got from him captioned "you're missing out".... dick

Yo, my brothers, this thread shouts ' we fucking love to ski.'

I grew up skiing small mid atlantic spots but have been skiing The Big One for decades. You guys bring me stoke of my skiing youth.
    Keep on keeping on ...

Harry keeping it real whitewashing the punks, loving it, solid work for a retired Mayor.
Public service still quite a part of your day, eh?

And UM, dude, your kids are killing it and it just awesome to know they are carrying the torch, insuring a future for our passion.

DJ is right, this thread often reminds me of my humble midwest and mid-atlantic skiing roots.

UM, that's awesome to hear, sounds like the Western experience is treating him well. The coverage at CB is great at the moment, hopefully you'll get good conditions for your trip. Hit me up if you want to try to coordinate some laps and pocket beers.

HA ! Look who is lurking in this thread, the most maggoty maggot on the TRG, plus a legit JHAF member, Djongo himself !

You need to come for a visit, bring those 190+ Mantra 102’s and set a new speed record at Christie Mountain. [emoji3]

Trollhaugen Demo Days this weekend. Come ski next years stuff. I will be in the Volkl tent. We should have some severely inappropriate midwest skis, Revolt 121, 114, Blaze 114.

And if any mags need tickets, I have a few comp passes still available.
