Also, it's raining now so things are just going to get grosser. I'm not in a rush to get up there.

Sounds like the Ironwood/Bessemer area has just been getting pounded with snow this year though, but not sure how this rain is treating them.
Hey thanks! Looks like I’m pushing this trip to mid/late feb.

Leaving for CO on Friday. Plan is to hit Crested Butte on Sunday before setting up camp at Telluride for Tuesday to Saturday. Any recommendations on where to ski/eat/drink at either?

Headed over to Chestnut Mtn. with the family and some other kiddos from Fri-Sunday. Looks like Saturday might catch a few inches of new snow. Kids have progressed a bunch since last year's trip, so excited to see how they handle some of the steeper stuff this time around.

I'm always impressed with the amount of open jacket drunken senders at Chestnut. Reminds me of the good old days at Wilmot. But means I will be running interference uphill so the kid doesn't get taken out. He's still a bit young to release into the midwest wilds solo.

Thanks. Let me ask a Midwest question then. Where along I-80 in Nebraska has the coldest Busch Lights and cheapest hotels?

Casey's for no ethanol, beer, and Pizza.

We have a dog and 90% of the time we are at La Quinta North Platte or La Quinta Kearney. 100% success rate with them. The one in NP has a dog run out back and no ethanol gas at the station next door (not a Casey's).

    2019/2020 Midwest Stoke Thread

Met up with maggot Axebiker at Trollhaugen on Friday. Great snow, 1-2 inches of cream cheese on top of corduroy. We got there right at opening so untracked all over the place. So much fun ripping around, we were the undisputed Best Skiers On The Mountain. Maggot domination.

Shitloads of beater activity in the lift line. So I upped the ante and loaded the lift incorrectly and got yelled at by a lifty. I told him my name is Harry, so somewhere in WI/MN some poor sap named Harry got his pass pulled.

Lifts spin till 3am on Friday nights with live punk bands, but we didn’t make it quite that long, we left just as the Rail Jam was starting.

Trollhaugen is really hopping, fun place.

    2019/2020 Midwest Stoke Thread

Another day skiing with fellow maggots, this time the infamous Ski J. We met up at my local hill Christie Mountain where indie ski company BPM Skis was having demo day. I spent the day trying out different skis in their lineup.

Pleased to announce their skis are legit. Definitely geared toward the Midwest market. Some very cool topsheets, plus they can do custom artwork. Pick your width, pick your length, pick your topsheet, they build the skis.

Very intuitive skis, just think about turning and off you go. Got them up to speed and the wood core stayed nice and stable. I really don’t need new skis, but I could certainly see myself buying a set of these. The CEO is a Patroller at Christie and he makes these in Chippewa Falls WI.

Interesting company and sounds as if you like their skis after your demo. I wonder if BPM could apply these photos to a top sheet?

Today was damned near crispy winter perfection at Chestnut. Yesterday's pow was welcomed but proved challenging, clumps of snow in flat light with icy scrapers underneath. A couple of the finest skers I know proved unflappable (one is a young race coach for our team who's U10 kid rips harder than 99% of the worlds skiers), but for the rest of us we tried to rise to the challenge and enjoy our mini pow day without taking any over the handle bar diggers. Throwing down on the edge of control, and when the legs finally tired, we slowed our pace and skied an unusually variable hill to the bottom, sometimes slamon skiing through the carnage left behind by those completely out matched by the snow and terrain. The skis that worked well were heavy 100ish chargers with sharp edges, and my quiver was missing that, my dull E104 edges will be fixed this week, but even then it took a ski with some heft to chop the pow mounds.

Today, the heaven sent freshness was all groomed into the icy base layer and the result was special sauce awesome. Pure hero snow. No excuses accepted. You are what you ski.

I missed crossing paths with GPSrex both days, he was dealing with training in his people over on chair 2 and I had everyone I know show up yesterday charging chair 3 beside me.

Really makes you appreciate the midwest. We don't have the snow or the mountains, but we have free no hassle slopeside parking with no traffic to the hill, friendly known faces everywhere you turn, and mostly ski on chairs, and days like today, the hill delivered bigly.

    HAHA, no.

Both of those pics are Grizzlies, and both pics are from Big Sky. I brought a big azz Uhaul from Big Sky to here, but I did not have room for a Grizzly. My game camera did catch a very chubby black bear on my island this fall though.

That first pic is notable for his claws. I think Talisman took that pic at the Specimen Creek trailhead in Yellowstone Park.

The second pic was taken by a guy Talisman and I know. It was near West Yellowstone. If you notice there is a dead buffalo in that pic too. Classic grizzly, round ears, big round head. I think there is a good story behind pic 2, but I forget the details. Talisman can fill us in.
