Troubleshooting : replacement climbing skin cheater strip

Have been re-gluing BD skins for years but never had any luck saving the plastic cheater strip that runs down the center on the wider skins.

So was googling around and saw that you can buy black taffeta by what seems like the mile. As an experiment I picked up a role and applied it to the back of the skins.

After a day of use I’m impressed! Worked perfectly - did not release.

So if anyone wants some shoot me a PM and I’ll mail you some as I have more black taffeta than I will ever use.

I just pull it off, it will be gooped with nasty hydrolized skin glue that is migrating to everything so I clean it off with some kind of wax remover or orange degreaser and stick it back into the new glue

    Tafetta, nice one.

Had success splitting skins and using extra greenhouse poly as the center strip.

Wow — did they hold up over a season well?

Well, that setup didn't get much use, maybe a dozen ski touring outings or so. No worse for wear and they survived summer storage without any major adhesion fail. A few bubbles of poly delam but nothing a bit of hair drier heat and palm pressure couldn't fix.
