When I lived in Whistler the rubber on the tire would wear out before the Stans dried out, but here in the high country Colorado 4oz of Stans needs topping up every 3 months, and if its left over 5 months the tire will be bone dry inside when removed from the rim. Not just low, but dry to the touch, and not even a STANimal.

Also a small zip tie is a good dip stick, I pull the valve core, rotate the wheel with the valve at the bottom, stick a zip tie in the stem, and the little groves in the zip tie hold the Stans and indicate how much liquid is left.
I bet mine is bone dry. If so, I should put the full 4oz in?

I do back out torque wrenches though. Not sure why, but unlike DIN, I'm setting it's value every time I use it, so it doesn't seem like a big deal to back it out.

I've read that leaving it stored at a given setting for a long time can "set" the wrench a bit so it's less accurate at torque values close to where it was left. But if you're using the wrench often, that wouldn't be an issue.

Yes. Well, I think it's a 2oz bottle that typically does the trick. Too much is just slightly more weight, so not an issue really.

Stans recommends 4oz for most MTB sizes and 2oz for most Road/Gravel size tires.

Edit: how the fawk do you post photos now? did something change? I know the site has been weird the last week, but I don't see where you can upload attachments?

Yeah, photo uploading is currently fucked. Hoping they fix it.

You have to hotlink from somewhere else.

You could start by not talking about how great your NX stuff is. We all hate it.

SRAM DUB BB. BSA 73mm. To be installed with 4,5mm spacer on the drive side. If I use the 3mm spacer, do I 1) get a 53,5mm chainline, or 2) a problem (cranks will have some play in them etc)?

Willow Springs is your best bet for decent cell. I've worked remotely from a camp there.

I’d recommend the Moab public library for a Zoom call. Maybe even one of the private study rooms.

After the money we all spend on the gear and the travel to get to Moab and do the things, the expectation of free camping there that could possibly be sustainable in that fragile environment with the millions of people who visit the area yearly is hilarious. Pony up the $15 bucks a night and enjoy all the sweet trails they’ve built for you to enjoy. If you’re looking for true solitude in your camping experience, an area with approx 3mm + visitors a year might not be the ticket. If you can’t swing the $15 for a night of camping….riding a bike in Moab might not be the best idea either.
Phish, this isn’t aimed at you, it’s just a general reaction to the annual emergence of this topic.

I would gladly pay $30+/night for slightly spread out sites. Not sure I have ever paid for an actual campsite down there. My expectation might be off from visiting several other places in the west where the paid camping is almost always sites that are like 20 feet apart max. So stupid. Never understood that.

Are Moab paid sites rather spread out, or is it like the common style with 70 sites packed into 3 acres? Shit, take the whole upper mesa area west of 191. Keep the roads sites exactly as it is. Drop in a pit toilet every mile. Charge $40/night. Well worth it.

The Dirt is a great resource for dispersed camping. They include info on Cell and WiFi service.

I know this was asked recently, but for flying domestically, how strict is Southwest? Might be tough to get under 50lbs if its a 37lb bike...

Ah, I've only used 2oz without issues. Must be why I'm sooo fast [emoji12] Actually, the Reserve wheels seal so well that I've inflated without Stans. I always add it in before riding though as sidewalls can bleed.

Sealant doesn’t do much for inflation; the mechanical interface between the tire and rim is almost always good enough for an initial seal these days. Two oz of sealant is enough to fill any gaps in the system so it holds air. But IME it’s not enough to seal a puncture. I use four for that, although anything bigger than a thorn or cactus spine will probably need a plug.

The N. Klondike sites are actually pretty spread out.
Agree with Joe, I remember sand flats being gross in 1988 from turd flags flying in every juniper.

Speaking of Moab camping, I’m planning on doing two back to back White Rim in a days next week.

The plan is to park my van somewhere on/near the route, ride the whole thing in a day, pass out when I get back to the van, and repeat the next day. Any suggestions on a good spot to park and pass out?

You can park/camp on the Mineral road.

Also, I’ll have friends out there bikepacking it over the course of three days, so lapping them twice will be a great opportunity to flex on them.

    Both excellent reasons.

I still think you should just ride Amasa Back trails like 12 times in those couple days.

Pulled my bike out for the first spring ride and discovered I my tranzx dropper won’t actuate with the lever. I also can’t manipulate the actuator by hand either. It was working when I put it away for the winter, though there were about 6 times where this would happen on a ride but it resolve itself while riding, so I put off looking into it.

Just curious if anyone here has experienced similar with a tranzx dropper?
Isn’t it pretty much a pnw/oneup clone, meaning that I can reference those instructions?

Cable seems ok, a little long but ok otherwise i think. About to pull it off, let the air out and start taking it apart…

yep. For ex, a place like this, just before the mineral bottom switchbacks. there are a few well-used sites right there. and surely many others just off the mineral road. Not a "great" place to camp, but good enough for your purposes.
