Just heard lupo is getting an overhaul for 2024. Any info out there?

I only kept mine for a few days. I was disappointed in how they toured and had too much heel lift. I came from Hawx Ultra XTD that I used a Dalbello tongue on. For the rest of the season I used old Vulcans (which I thought had poor forward ROM with the bump stops in (technically they have zero forward ROM))

I prefer not using risers and steeper skin tracks so that could be why I like more forward ROM. Hawx XTD have great forward rom.
Don't know how I missed this. Thanks for the info. I have commited to the Lupo as my everything boot, will see how it fairs for the season. First tour yesterday I definitely got some heel lift so I need to play with buckle tension. I did like the ROM without the tongue, probably going to hate the tongue on yo-yo days, but most of my stuff is Rockies/Selkirks which is single lap like you.

There is a pick on new schoolers in 2024 gear thread of a LV Cabrio model. Looks like a krypton replacement, so maybe?

So if I’m reading reading this right, in summary, the changes for the Lupo for 23/24 this year are the addition of a lighter-weight Pro (130 flex), shaving around 200g primarily by way of a Grilamid🤢 clog. The true successor to the Pro HD (still 130 flex) now using a wrap liner🙌🏼, a softer flex (120) model as seeming replacement to the AX, and possibly AX HD depending on shell material used, and finally a woman’s Lupo with a slightly increased flex (100 to 105).

All Lupos will now sport a 99mm last, across the line (no more 100mm AX versions offered), and a redesigned ski/hike mechanism, with no additional details provided on what those differences are.

Not specified, but very much expecting (hoping for) the apparent Pro HD replacement, the (upgraded word salad) Cabrio LV Free 130 3D Wrap, to continue using a PU lower shell 🤞🏼😒🤞🏼

“Perhaps the biggest news out of Dalbello’s 2023/2024 lineup is the official retirement of their long standing Krypton/Chakra series, which is being replaced by their new Cabrio LV family. Although still built upon the same beloved 3-piece shell design, the Cabrio LV ski boots pick up where the Krypton and Chakra boots left off by catering to hard charging freeride skiers. Each boot in the Cabrio LV line comes with wrap-style liners and is headed up by the high-performance Cabrio LV 130, which has a 99mm last (vs the previously 98mm width) and is made from a new, fully recycled polyurethane shell material.

Another retirement story is announced for the more downhill-focused free touring Lupo boot series, which is being replaced by the new Cabrio LV Free line. Although they have a very similar form factor to the inbound-specific Cabrios, the Frees boast heel/toe tech inserts and a new ski-walk mechanism as well as a fixed, bi-injected tongue. The pinnacle Cabrio LV Free 130 Lite weighs 1780 grams thanks to its grilamid shell material, polyamide composite carbon cuff, and Pebax tongue. The Cabrio LV Free lineup also includes the new: Cabrio LV Free 130 3D Wrap Ski Boots, Cabrio LV Free 120 Ski Boots, and Cabrio LV Free 105 W Ski Boots.

Other key callouts for Dalbello’s new 2023/24 season include a company wide adoption of 99mm lasting for all their boots that were previously a 98mm last.”

Looks like you just add the removable tounge from the old lupos no problem. I’m excited about the new fit as the old ones fit awful for me.
Hope we end up with a lot of fun frankenboots

That’s good to know, as I couldn’t really tell from the photo whether the tongue was removable, and saw in another discussion (maybe NS?) that it wasn’t. But I guess they were just going by appearances. Curious to see how it works without the current flip/pin design..

Question for y'all: What sub 1,500g boot fits similar to the lupo pro hd out of the box?

I am doing all my touring in this boot now because it fits my foot so well that I can almost forget about the weight penalty... Almost. Sometimes it really would be nice to be in something substantially lighter.

Help me narrow down my search please, and thanks!

You would have to switch the entire tongue and “posts” to have a removable tongue on the new Cabrio Free. Just to be clear.

Have they done anything magic to make these new gen boots walk well?

The current Lupo walks terrible with the tongue in.

Thanks--Lupo air looks interesting. 100mm last instead of the 98, but BSL is the same across sizes as the other lupos, which would be convenient. Have you or other pro HD owners put your feet in these boots yet?

I'm not afraid to branch out and try something non-dalbello either. Anyone out there who loves the pro hd and also has another favorite lightweight touring boot?

I’ve worn kryptons/Lupo carbon/Lupo air for around 10 years. I’ve had good success switching to a Dynafit Hoji free 110 for touring. Lupo/krypton hybrid for skihill/slack. I did some shell work to the Hoji but not anything out of the ordinary. It fit pretty well out of the box much like the krypton.

Revisiting this--are there any Pro HD fan bois out there who are also happy in the ZGTP or Lupo Air 130?

The air 130 looks cool, but that 100mm last is scaring me away. I really don't need more volume than the pro HD.

Well, I pulled the trigger on a pair of ZGTP, so I'll provide some feedback regarding fit compared to the Pro HD after I get some time in them.

I ski pro hd’s off my sled, krypton’s inbounds, and picked up zgpt’s for touring this year. I took the tour wraps from my lupos and put them into the zgpt’s for a perfect fit. I always have to get shell work done and haven’t had to do anything which has been nice. The last several seasons I have been touring on lupos and love the fit, walkability, weight,, and skiing performance of the zgpt’s.
Stoked to have a boot quiver that provides the best performance for all my skiing applications.

Love to hear it. I'm also using tour wraps in the lupos, so if I don't get along with the stock liners in the tour pro I'll try swapping those in. Thanks! I'm pumped for Friday's mail!

Maybe a silly question, but looking at a lupo pro hd and wondering if an alpinist binding or kingpin is the way to go. Pretty much a touring setup only.

Kingpin skis nicer. Alpinist is lighter.

Lupo pro hd for a dedicated touring boot is an interesting choice, even if you aren’t doing huge days. Lots of fiddling, limited forward ROM, and heavy af.

Couldn’t find a Krypton thread but figured this might work as well…

I’ve been in a pair of Lupo TI since 2017. Use the orange 130 flex tongue. By far the best boots I’ve ever ridden, swapped out the liner for Intuition pro wraps a couple years ago and even better. I’ve never toured in them, don’t really intend to.

With the changes coming to the Dalbello line next year, I’ve been thinking about picking up another pair of Lupos/Kryptons. Found a great deal on some krypton 130 pro in my size. Seems to be similar narrow last as my 2017 TI. Would take them to my shop and probably put in intuitions.

Good idea? Always hesitant buying boots online but the lupos fit me so well and I don’t want to miss out…

I did a mod for someone to tighten their ankle and reduce heel lift. It will pull the boot closer in to the front of your ankle.

    1. Remove cuff
    2. If you have no punches, bake entire shell. If you have punches, just heat up the area in front of the ankle/instep with a heat gun. Go slow and you won’t damage the gaiter.
    3. Put a semi rigid spacer under the ankle buckle cable. This is to stop the cable from digging into the soft plastic. But it needs to be flexible enough to allow the plastic to curve in when buckle is tightened. I made a strip out of the bontex shin that comes with the boot.
    4. Put boot on. Without the tongue.
    5. Put shim under cable and tighten cable until it feels tight on your ankle.
    6. Let cool

This will reduce the heel-to-instep distance on this boot which is huge. It will make the shell actually wrap around your ankle and retain it better. I found the cable did little for heel retention because the wheel is so deep and there is no plastic in front of your foot.
