I hear they're gonna take a bunch of weight out of the next version of the hotshot, which is a bummer.

Repeating myself here, but follows 4frnts lead… making the inbounds skis lighter, but then still having a touring line that is on the heavy end. I want a heavy (2300 ish gram) damp resort ski and a 1550 ish gram 100-105 ish waisted bc ski… not a 2000 gr resort ski, and 1800 gr bc ski! J seems to sell out of most everything they produce. Don’t overthink it!
Yeah, Hotshot going lighter with construction tweaks but unknown how much. Thats why Im trying to get my hands on the current version.
I hvae an old Metal mounted once for Pivots with lots of life left, if anyone cares. $100. I crammed my 316mm boots into the bindings and maxed out the adjustment. I bought them used and they were mounted for a smaller boot
I am sooooo close to getting the 189 Hotshot with my preferred Sunrise topsheet
Trying to buy skis on FB marketplace is like online dating back in the day...
If you’re buying new J Skis, buy soon! Their factory is in Canada and they are going to more expensive soon, due to the tariffs. I read an interview with Jason Leventhal lately who was in a bit of a dilemma as to what to due. You can’t just switch all your production which you’ve fine tuned for years to another facility overnight. Of course, by next fall, probably all skis will be more expensive as they are imported from Europe or China as are many of the components for those manufactured in the US.

Time to start bootlegging skis. I claim the ON3P to North traffic
"Let's be careful out there."
Skis could be more expensive across board since materials are not necessarily locally sourced. Even Moment has said that prices could go up. We'll have to wait and see.
J is not making a ski that I am currently drooling over. Both the Hotshot and Friend lacked the backbone I wanted. I should have tried the longer length (189?).
Fwiw, I'm 6' 195 and the 189 Hotshots have a ton of backbone. Heard similar things about the shorter lengths also

Good to hear. The 183 just didn't cut it. Fun ski, but it did not like being pushed hard into chop. Same with the Friend.
Curious what J brings out for next year.
I was contemplating adding some hotshots to the quiver and emailed J asking about the next years Hotshot.
He had this to say.
it's going to be 104 waist and lighter weight with an Aspen core and more carvy but still float great. We may make a 108 width proto at some point but not sure yet.
Now i need to decide if I should wait for the new ski. I would kinda hope it doesnt lose too much heft.
I wanted the Masterblaster and Hotshot to fill the 99-106 area but the Masterblaster just skis too short. I have not skied the Hotshot but am just going Moment instead. The new 98 Countach will fit nicely if its anything similar to the 110 CT. Lighter and narrower for the Hotshot does not make sense to me but I am not an engineer.
Heritage lab AM100 is definitely worth a gander, or the RC95 depending on how directional you want to go. I like my 187 master blasters a lot for soft groomers and spring slush, but they don’t hold an edge very well (to be fair I probably over detuned my pair).
Picked up some HL RC95’s for a more directional hard snow ski for next season. For pure low tide I want mass and damping, the moments are little too light of a layup for that slot IMO, but the HL’s crush it in that department
Thats good point Muggy. Ive looked at HL over and over but never really considered his narrower options. I dont want anything super directional, so probably the AM100?
Sounds like the ticket to me! Should still have a good ability to lay an edge but maintain pivot ability and smear ability in tight places and off piste
